Businesses Plan Local Juneteenth Celebrations
As the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives voted this week to make Juneteenth a federal holiday, many local organizations are celebrating as well. The day, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Gaveston, Texas, discovered President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation had freed them 2½ years earlier.
Many local churches, businesses and organizations have celebrations planned throughout the weekend.

Fuel Church Distributes 35,000 Pounds of Food
A local church known for peddling hope filled up cars with something else this week. Fuel Church teamed up with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farmers to Families Food Box Program and distributed more than 35,000 pounds of food to local residents Thursday.

When the owner of a group of dogs passed away, they were surrendered to the Kokomo Humane Society and in serious need of some tender loving care before being placed for adoption.
