Unmasking the Potential of the UP Program at the Black & White Masquerade Gala

One thing a mask can’t hide is the Unlimited Potential of the kids in the UP Program at Kokomo Urban Outreach.

For kids ages 4 through 18 in Kokomo, the sky is the limit thanks to donors and volunteers at this local nonprofit and on Sept. 21 at Bel Air Events in Kokomo, you’re invited to dress your best to help the program continue to make a difference!

The UP Program at Kokomo Urban Outreach believes that by teaching children at a young age the importance of doing well in school, as well as learning life skills like cooking, cleaning and budgeting just to name a few, a child is then given the resources to become a self-reliant adult by the time they graduate from High School.

“It’s easy to give someone something like food to get them by, but it makes a bigger impact in someone’s life when you can help them learn the life skills it takes to be able to provide that for themselves,” said Sherry Rahl, director of the UP Programs at Kokomo Urban Outreach.

Throughout the evening, children who are current participants in the UP Program will speak of what the program has done in their lives. There will also be entertainment provided by comedian John Branyan, a Kokomo local, as well as a guest performance from his son-in-law, Luke.

“I started comedy in 1990 as a hobby and turns out I was better than I thought I was, and it turned into a full-time gig,” said Branyan.

Guests can expect a relatable Midwest-based comedy routine from Branyan, who appreciates the ability to give back to the community while not having to get on a plane to do so.

“I always like when the local tribe is doing things that benefit each other,” said Branyan.

Throughout the evening, guests can bid on silent auction baskets which include gifts from AMC Theatre, Bruno’s Pizza, Buff City Soap, Healing Hands Spa, Heritage Lanes and many more.

So dress in your best, grab a mask and help us unmask the Unlimited Potential of kids in our community.
