Kokomo and Richmond have had numerous hard-fought battles since their first matchup in the 1904-05 season. This week’s Kokomo Post Sports Game of the Week highlighted the latest chapter in their rivalry, as the Wildkats held on for a 96-90 win over the Red Devils.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with Zion Bellamy draining a 3-pointer before the buzzer to give Kokomo a 23-19 lead.
The second quarter and most of the third featured some of the best basketball Kokomo has played all year. Head coach John Peckinpaugh expressed his appreciation for the team’s performance in an interview with The Kokomo Post following the game.
In the fourth quarter, Richmond flipped a switch. The Red Devils deployed a 1-3-1 defense that created issues for Kokomo. As the Wildkats lost focus, Richmond took advantage and quickly chipped away at what had been a 34-point lead.
Kokomo tightened up in the final 90 seconds to secure the hard-fought victory.
