Tickets are on sale now for this exclusive experience on Friday, July 26, at The Hobson in downtown Kokomo.

Having grown up in an artistic household, local designer, artist and CEO of No BiAS Chardonnay Rose always had a passion for design.

“I remember coloring in coloring books as a kid, but only coloring the clothing and not the people,” said Rose. “My dad was very supportive and would buy me sketchbooks and manikin books so I did that for a long time, then I officially launched my upcycled clothing brand while in the Kokomo CEO program when I was 17.”

After taking a break from designing while in college, the spark was reignited when Rose saw a peer present a fashion collection in an art exhibition.

“I saw it and I thought, I can do that,” she said. “So I made 70 pieces, and I did a fashion show the next year.”

After graduating and getting a job as an art teacher in Indianapolis, Rose decided to take a leap and follow her dreams in fashion by submitting her work to New York Fashion Week.

“I realized I’m trying to encourage my students to follow their dreams but not doing it myself is kinda hypocritical,” she said with a laugh.

A major part of No BiAS’ focus, is to eliminate as much waste as possible when it comes to sourcing its clothing and fabric. All of the company’s clothing comes from donations or are purchased from thrift stores.

“Growing up, my mom would have a tub of fabric and we would just play in it, make something, rip it apart and then make something else. She would never buy more, so we would just use what we have. I always liked being able to reuse something,” said Rose.

In a 2020 study from the World Economic Forum, fashion production makes up 10 percent of humanity’s carbon emissions, dries up water sources and pollutes rivers and streams, and 85 percent of all textiles go to the dump each year.

“Sometimes I look at fabric and a design comes to me, other times it’s harder because I have the sketches made for fashion week and they’ve been submitted, and then I have to look and see what fabric I have to work with. But that’s the beauty of it, when I have to stick to my goals and values of sustainability, I can create something new,” said Rose.

Even the scrap fabric not used in production from No BiAS is repurposed into pillows for women at the Kokomo Rescue Mission, ensuring from their business nothing goes to waste.
