Kokomo Kids - Summer Ideas (part 1)

Hey Kokomo! Memorial Day weekend is here and we like to consider this the unofficial start to summer! School is out for the kiddos and this summer may look a little different for your family as we start to emerge from quarantine so we’re here to help you rev up your creativity and spark your imagination when it comes to summertime fun. Here are some ideas to kick off summer fun:

  • Kokomo Farmers Market

Could we BE more excited about our local market? We’re so proud of the Kokomo Farmer’s Market and we can’t wait to see what’s in store this summer. The outdoor market opens June 6 for the 2020 season. Do you know there are activities just for kids every week? Surprise your kids every Saturday morning with the free crafts and activities they offer. So. Much. Fun.

  • Gratitude scavenger hunt

Reframe the typical scavenger hunt idea to help kids find and appreciate things that they enjoy. You’ll be amazed at how this shifts their perspective (and yours!) You make the rules for this but it can be an outdoor or indoor “hunt.” Here are some ideas of what to include: a toy they’re grateful for, something that makes them laugh,  something that they love, something that is useful to them, something that will make someone else happy, etc. You get the idea! Reframing their perspective to see everyday things in a new light is a helpful practice for kids and adults alike.

  • Visit a Kokomo splash pad

Located at 105 W. Elm St., the Al Berryman Memorial Park Splash Pad is a summer treasure for our city. The completely FREE splash pad is right along in Industrial Heritage Trail. Enjoy the sun and let the kids cool down and splash around at this ocean-themed park. (Photo Credit: The City of Kokomo.)

  •  Summer Picnic Magic

Pack your favorite meal, walk or drive to your favorite Kokomo park, find a picnic table, or spread out your favorite blanket and voila! Instant summer fun. Our recipe for a summer picnic is fool-proof. Also falling well within the current social distancing guidelines, a good old fashioned picnic is a great way to spend time with friends and family.

So what are packing in your picnic basket, Kokomo? PB&J? Bologna? Cold Chicken? We want to hear your picnic picks!
