In the latest episode of our series, Drew visits The Experience at the Kokomo Country Club to learn some bartending skills. Since food and drinks are a staple of Father's Day celebrations, we wanted to meet up with local experts to bring you some tips and unique drink recipes that will elevate your celebration.
In the first half of the video, Drew pairs up with Megan Richey, the bar manager of The Experience, to learn how to make a unique spin on an Old Fashioned. Megan introduces us to the Coffee Old Fashioned, a sweet twist on the classic cocktail.
Recipe:
2 ounces of your favorite bourbon
2 ounces of Kahlua
1/3 ounce pour of sherry
A dash or two of bitters
Shake or mix the ingredients, fill a glass with ice, and pour your concoction over the ice. Drew's reaction to the first sip says it all: "“The coffee is nice in that!” He even considers it a breakfast cocktail, making it perfect for a special Father's Day brunch.
For those celebrating someone who prefers non-alcoholic beverages or looking to mix up something special for the under-21 crowd, the second half of the video is for you. Drew joins Stephanie Burnette, front of the house at the country club, to create a delicious non-alcoholic Hot Honey Smash mocktail.
Recipe:
Two thick slices of fresh strawberries
A sprig of basil
A generous drizzle of hot honey
Sprite to fill the glass
Start by muddling the strawberries and basil in your drinking glass. Once combined, drizzle in the hot honey, then fill the glass with Sprite. Garnish with extra strawberry slices and basil for a beautiful and refreshing drink. Drew's enthusiastic response? “ALL DAY! That is so good!” He said the drink is a perfect balance of sweetness and subtle savory heat from the hot honey.
