What Drew Orders - Half Moon (Menu Hacks)

Welcome to What Drew Orders, a series on The Kokomo Post where Drew shows off great local restaurants in Kokomo and specifically what he likes to order at those restaurants.
My first reaction when I hear someone talk about Half Moon Restaurant & Brewery is simply, respect.
Half Moon is one of those restaurants that has done it right from the start and hasn’t looked back. From the building, the staff, the experience and the food, Half Moon has been such a great addition to Kokomo.
Half Moon’s menu is large; they really do have something for everyone. Most of it fits well within that brewpub type menu, but they also have some healthy options as well. They’ve got burgers, sandwiches, salads, steaks, barbecue options and more.
I’ve gone back and forth between a few things over the years at Half Moon, but I’ve finally found something I get the high majority of the time. It’s also a pretty darn good menu hack. This is a good one today, folks. Buckle in.
Before I get into my order, I have to talk about the rolls. Guys and gals. They are so good. Prepare yourself for a bold statement, but I do think they are even better than the rolls at Texas Roadhouse (mic drop) (picks up mic to keep writing). Now, I don’t eat these rolls like the normal patron at Half Moon. I don’t consume any of them until my main course. Stay with me. It’s for good reason.
Ok, my go-to order can be found under the Smokehouse Combos. With this order you can either do a pick-two, pick-three or pick-four option. Your choices are pulled pork, chopped brisket, BBQ ribs, smokehouse sausage or a quarter smokehouse chicken. Now, depending how adventurous I’m feeling, I normally get the pick-two with pulled pork and brisket or the pick-three with pulled pork, brisket and the smokehouse sausage.
This meal also comes with two sides, and this is where my first Half Moon hack comes into play. Knowing that, with the meat options I selected, this is going to be a very “rich” meal, I choose to go with not one, but two side salads. When you order two side salads, they bring you a giant salad that could probably be an entree salad if you’re looking for a light lunch. I’m not a big fan of their ranch, so I get the thousand island or the honey mustard dressing.
Ready for another Half Moon hack? After I’m finished with my mega side salad, my pulled pork and brisket come to the table. Remember those rolls we were discussing? Well, they become the bread for a slider sandwich for that pulled pork and brisket. I stack some pulled pork or brisket on the rolls and then cover it with my choice of their table side barbecue options. Pro tip: mix the sweet and spicy sauce for a really good combination. When you’re all said, done and extremely full, you should be able to make 3-5 BBQ sliders.
Well, there you have it! That is my go-to order at Half Moon. What’s your go-to? Leave it in a comment and maybe I’ll give it a try!
