It’s easy to say that Kokomo is so boring when you don’t know what’s going on in town. Even our kids love telling us how dull life can get when your days all look the same. We’re here with a new weekly fun calendar, hoping to encourage you and your family to try something new and experience more of what Kokomo has to offer. Here’s something you can do with your kids every day this week! Take a look and tell them we sent you!


  • Monday, Jan. 20, 2024

    • Martin Luther King Jr. Day

      Since being enacted as a Federal Holiday and National Day of Service in 1983, the third Monday in January honors the civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who was assassinated in 1968. Add a little history lesson to your family fun this week and take time to learn about the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. or spend the day as he would doing something good for others. In observance of the Holiday, banks and select businesses may be closed. Several Indianapolis attractions are offering free admission for visitors including Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, the Indiana State Museum, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, and the Indianapolis Zoo.     • Peek-a-boo Playdate at the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library Main Branch

      Recommended for children ages 0-2

      Peek-A-Boo Playdate is a baby storytime for children ages 0-2 and their caregivers. The program includes rhymes, fun stories, beginner sign language, and songs for babies and toddlers. Storytime is followed by time for babies and caregivers to play and socialize freely.   • Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025

    • 4-H Ag Day at the Carver Community Center | 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

      For youth in grades 3-5

      The Purdue Extension-Howard County 4-H staff is hosting an Ag Day program where youth in grades 3-5 can explore the origins of pizza ingredients through a hands-on learning experience. Registration costs $5 and can be completed on the Carver Community Center website or by calling the center directly. Payments can be made in cash or by check, with checks payable to Purdue University.

  • Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025

    • Open Play at the Very Early Childhood Education Center
      1608 Kirk Row, Kokomo, IN 46902 | 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
      Recommended for children ages 0-5  for kindergarten readiness

      The Very Early Childhood Education Center, the ultimate play space for preschoolers, offers open play hours on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday each week.  On Thursdays from 10:30 to 11 a.m., Rhum Academy of Music hosts a special music program for kids at the center. This free, public resource center provides many opportunities for play and learning. The play space includes toys, structures that inspire imaginative play, and hands-on learning activities that encourage building and engineering.     • Storytime and Pottery Painting at Fired Arts Studio | 11 to 12:30 p.m.

      For kids ages 3 and older

      This is a workshop where little artists ages 3 and up are welcome to express themselves by decorating a beautiful piece of pottery at Fired Arts Studio with a parent or guardian. The workshop will begin with a story read aloud and then transitions to a fun, themed project related to the story. A reservation is required because seating is limited.     • Open Gym at Kokomotion | 1 to 2 p.m.

      For youth ages 6 and older

      Kokomotion invites youth of all skill levels to attend open gym every Saturday. Whether you’re a beginner, cheerleader, backyard trickster, or seasoned gymnast, this is the perfect place to work on your skills and get extra practice time. Registration is available online through the Kokomotion website. Open gym is $5 for active Kokomotion members and $8 for non-members. A signed waiver from a parent or legal guardian is required to participate.

    • Visit the Kirkendall Interpretive Nature Center at Jackson Morrow Park

      Fun for the whole family

      The Kirkendall Nature Center is currently operating on its winter schedule with open hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The nature center is home to many Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department (KPRD) programs and activities, including creature features throughout the year. If you’ve never visited, it’s a great place to learn more about local wildlife species, plants, and insects. In addition to preserved and live animals, the nature center has games, books, and other hands-on activities for the whole family to enjoy.
