The Kokomo Downtown Farmers Market announced today that it will be expanding to a new location, in a move to bring year-round grocery to a larger space with more opportunity.

The Market Store & Cafe will move to 115 W. Sycamore St. -- the former home of the Sycamore Grill and, more recently, Boondocks Food and Spirits. The location has been vacant for several years, but the move should be completed by the end of February, according to a press release distributed Monday afternoon.

“Our customers really, really appreciate the store and are very vocal about it,” Market Manager Adrienne Akers Partlow said in the release. “They bring their friends in. That’s my favorite thing, when they bring their friends in to check things out because it shows they really value the store and what we’re trying to achieve.”

As avid Farmer’s Market fans and downtown cheerleaders, we are here for it. Here are the top 5 things we are stoked about with the expansion:

1.) Fresh seasonal offerings. The summer farmer’s market is one of the sweetest local spots to find the freshest everything, and we are so hopeful that this announcement will signal even more of the milk, eggs, meat, fruits and veggies that we love. One of the best parts of the market is discovering new and innovative products that are in our own backyard, and we can’t wait to find some new treasures in an expanded market.

2.) Hot food. The expanded kitchen that once served up hot food at the Sycamore Grill and Boondocks will be put to good use, serving hot, fresh and healthy food to hungry patrons. Soup, pastas, salads and more. Give us all the good food, and keep the culinary scene growing in Kokomo.

3.) Community kitchen and education. One project on the agenda for Akers Parlow is opening a community kitchen, where locals can learn and cook -- and guest chefs can cut their culinary teeth. We love the education offered at the summer market and look forward to seeing more of this incredible resource continue year-round.

4.) A new chance to shop local. One of the greatest parts of the market is the chance to find new microbusinesses, making and selling exceptional products right in our own backyard. From honey to crafts to oils, the market is a destination for great gifts, and we love having something with such variety right here in our own backyard.

5.) Downtown development. We have long awaited a true downtown grocery store -- anyone remember the Trader Joe’s rumors? -- and we are here for it. We have loved being part of the downtown Kokomo scene, and we are excited to welcome our new neighbors.

Tell us, Kokomo -- what are you most excited about with the news of the expansion?
