Eastern High School leveraged home-field advantage Friday night, defeating Taylor 10-0 in the opening round of the Howard County Baseball Invitational.
The Comets seized control early, capitalizing on multiple Taylor fielding errors and a commanding performance by senior pitcher Collin Otto.
Eastern’s Kaleb Hurt scored the game’s first run on an overthrow to first base—the second such error by the Titans in the opening inning. Taylor’s defensive struggles persisted throughout the game, as Eastern exploited these miscues with aggressive baserunning and strategic bunts.
Otto delivered a no-hitter, recording 11 strikeouts and issuing four walks over five innings.
After a scoreless second inning, Eastern added two runs in both the third and fourth innings, then sealed the victory with a five-run fifth, invoking the mercy rule.
The Howard County Invitational continues Saturday. Eastern hosts Rossville at 10 a.m. ET, while Taylor travels to face Northwestern.
