Indiana University Kokomo hosted a unique River States Conference men’s basketball game on Saturday, welcoming Indiana University Columbus’ new men’s basketball team for a matinee matchup. While the final score indicated a lopsided result, the game featured several tightly contested moments.
IU Columbus opened strong, going blow for blow with the Cougars. The Crimson Pride found themselves in a favorable position, tied at 17 heading into the under-10-minute media timeout. That’s when the momentum shifted for IU Kokomo. The Cougars turned up their defensive intensity and focused on feeding the ball inside to Max Newman, which helped them build a 14-point lead by halftime.
From there, the Cougars controlled the game. Evan Kretz ignited the crowd with six second-half 3-pointers, while Joseph Annan Jr. contributed 17 points in just 18 minutes, helping IU Kokomo snuff out any momentum IU Columbus tried to build.
The Cougars capped off the River States Conference matchup with a dominant 109-68 victory over IU Columbus.
