Sun King Kokomo to Host Oddities Expo Saturday

For lovers of the strange and unusual, for the weirdos: this weekend is for you.

“We got a lot of weirdos in Kokomo,” said Skye Wilson, event coordinator at Sun King Kokomo. “And they don’t really have a place to congregate, so I thought I would make one.”

Kokomo is about to get a little more odd this weekend as Sun King Kokomo presents Bloody Buckeye, an oddities expo and market at Sun King Kokomo.

From 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, anyone can peruse the 16 vendors scattered throughout two floors of the family-friendly taproom, plus enjoy food from a food truck and local vegan powerhouse Lucky Lemon Bakery.

Some of the standout booths include a tarot card reader and a close-up magician, as well as several artists using upcycled items, taxidermy and a cryptid illustrator.

“He does illustrations of different mythical creatures,” Wilson said. “Cryptids are sort of specifically modern folklore almost.”

The event will host a blood drive with The Blood Bus from noon until 4 p.m. No preregistration is required.

Sun King itself will also be serving up some spooky cocktails to keep the party going: a Poison Apple with dry cider spiked with cinnamon vodka, as well as a Grimlet, a stylized take on a gimlet – with a creepy surprise inside.

Admission is free, and the event is all ages. Wilson, however, suggested adults with smaller children take a look at the offerings on the second floor to make sure they are not too spooky for younger audiences.

“I’m trying to keep Kokomo weird,” said Wilson. “And I think that we need to embrace different forms of art and different forms of creativity that we have in this community.”
