Rhine Hall Presents ‘Laugh Out Loud Comedy Night’ with Local Host and Talent

An elementary principal, a veteran and a nurse walk into a bar… No, this isn’t the start of a bad joke. But it’s what you can expect at Rhine Hall, one of Kokomo’s newest downtown venues, at 7 p.m. Jan. 26 and 27.

For just $20, you can experience acts from four comedians — Dan West, Randy Maurer, Gwen Sunkel and Brent Terhune.

“I’m excited to be moving back when Kokomo is doing a lot of cool stuff,” said comedian and event host Dan West. “This is one way I can combine my passion for comedy and my love for the community and bring people to Kokomo who wouldn’t have the opportunity to see easily.”

The venue has recently been renovated from the former Galilean Missionary Baptist Church, which was built in the 1930s.

“Gary Rhinebarger, the owner of Rhine Hall, wants to try to bring stuff to Kokomo that wasn’t there and we haven’t had a premiere comedy venue since the comedy club closed in 2015,” said West.

Indianapolis-based comedian Brent Terhune is known for his viral social media content and laid-back comedic style, but more importantly to West, his connection to Kokomo.

“He is someone who is terribly funny but he also has a connection to Kokomo, which is important to me when I’m booking the acts,” said West.

Gwen Sunkel is a nurse practitioner by day and a comedian by night, said West.

“She is a staple of the Indianapolis comedy community,” West said. “She doesn’t do comedy because she has to, she does comedy because she likes to and she’s good at it.

Finally, Randy Maurer, principal of Eastern Elementary, is known for his playful and mostly clean comedy telling stories about his life.
