It’s no secret that the late actress Betty White was a huge animal lover. White was an advocate for guide dogs and a long-standing board member for the L.A. Zoo, as well as a recipient of American Humane's highest honor, the National Humanitarian Medal and the Legacy Award.
Many humane societies all over the world, including the Kokomo Humane Society, are getting involved with the viral #bettywhitechallenge honoring the comedy star’s would-be 100th birthday.
The #bettywhitechallenge hashtag has been used more than 179,000 times on Facebook and other social media platforms.
“It’s a great way to honor Betty White,” said Karen Wolfe, executive director for the Kokomo Humane Society. “We’ve already raised over $1,500 over Facebook, as well as more donations through the mail.”
While financial gifts are preferred for this challenge, physical gifts such as bleach and laundry detergent are always needed, said Wolfe. You can find the organization’s Amazon wish list by clicking here.
The Kokomo Humane Society currently has 49 dogs and 201 cats ready to be adopted, said Wolfe. If you’re interested in donating to Betty White’s honor, you can visit the Humane Society’s Facebook page.
If you’re looking to add a furry feline to your family, check out the humane society’s Cat Cafe. This cafe features cats that are ready to be adopted. Watch the cats interact with each other in the colony and find one that fits your family. The Cat Cafe is open noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
