Kokomo Pride Festival Kicks Off Saturday
Booths, food trucks, live music and a drag show highlight the day

Kokomo Pride’s annual festival kicks off Saturday in the downtown Buckeye Street Depot district and organizers say this fest will be the largest yet.
With 20 vendors, food trucks and live music all day, the festival will not only be a a day of fun, but it will also educate and celebrate the history of the LGBTQ+ community.
Kokomo Pride’s Sheyenne Adams said the event marks a step for the LGBTQ+ nonprofit organization, which has celebrated multiple Pride events in the past few years, but none of this caliber.
“It’s the first time that we are having one on this large of a scale,” Adams said.
Kicking off at 1 p.m., the festival will feature more than 20 vendors, and a full lineup of bands throughout the day. The fest will cap off with a drag show at Sun King Kokomo at 8 p.m.
One of the main goals of the festival, Adams said, is to provide a space and a home for members of the LGBTQ+ community.
“I moved here a little over a year ago, and I have never felt more at home to truly be myself than finding Kokomo Pride especially and the community there,” she said.
Though Kokomo may be seen as a typically conservative community, the need for support and visibility for the LGBTQ community remains.
There is a queer community here, there is an LGBTQ community here, but we are really trying to show that. I know that there are really people who need that community and support and safe space,” Adams said. “That’s what we are trying to do.”
In addition to the live music and vendors, everyone who attends will receive one free raffle ticket for a raffle basket. Additional tickets are $1.
