Kokomo Garage Sale Flip-Wooden Chevron Arrows
Hey Kokomo! A few years ago I decided to tackle my first big Pinterest project! I had been browsing through one of my home decor boards and I noticed that I had saved this same photo five times (this was apparently before Pinterest decided to tell us “Oops you’ve already saved this Pin”).
A few months prior I had purchased about 10 pallets that someone was actually giving away on the Kokomo Garage Sale Facebook page. I figured I would use some of these to build me up some of these arrows. I love the simplicity of these arrows and the character they bring to any room. They can also be stained and/or distressed however you would like! I chose a combination of colors for mine. I chose a dark walnut for the stain and white chalk paint to distress.
I would love to tell you that I completed this project all by myself but like I said this was my first big Pinterest project that required more than a paintbrush...so I did appoint my husband to use the miter saw and cut the wood into 45 degree angles. (By the way, after I watched him , I was fairly confident I could have done this myself with the help of a quick YouTube video- so if you're feeling crazy, go on with your bad self). After the boards were angled and cut into 12 inch pieces, I light sanded them to take off the rough corners and even out the texture. I used an old T-shirt to stain all of the boards in the dark walnut color and then I let them dry for about 15 minutes and applied a second coat. After the second coat dried, I took my paintbrush that had been dipped into the chalk paint and lightly brushed over the stained surface, leaving some light streaks. Once the chalk paint had dried I took a piece of sandpaper and rubbed the boards to give them a slightly distressed look. After I got the colors where I wanted them I let them dry overnight. The next day I screwed in some mending plates to secure the arrows together (these plates can be purchased at any hardware store for less than a few dollars).
I made these arrows to hang on a small wall that connects our living room to our kitchen and I decided to hang the arrows vertically because I felt they looked better that way with the smaller and more narrow wall. There are so many ways that you can design and hang these arrows and they are sure to spice up any room! I have had SO many people that visit my home ask me where I purchased the arrows and it feels so good to say that I actually made them myself (again, with just that TAD bit of help from the hubby). This little DIY was so fun to do and I am so happy with how it turned out. I hope you enjoy this project as much as I did!
What do you think, Kokomo?
