Howard County: Jan. 17 Basketball Predictions

While frigid temperatures fill the air, high school basketball is heating up across the county. Four of the five local teams are in action Friday night, and the excitement is building as they aim to fine-tune their skills before the regular season wraps up. Every game is an opportunity to sharpen strategies, build momentum, and make a statement heading into postseason play.

Let’s dive into this week’s matchups and predict the winners of each game.

Harrison 9-3 vs 4A #15 Kokomo 10-2

This game has the potential to be one of Kokomo's lower-scoring performances of the season. Harrison has the ability to slow down Kokomo's style of play while executing its offensive game plan. The Raiders’ top three scorers present a significant threat to the Wildkats on Friday, but they likely won’t be enough to contain Indiana All-Star candidate Zion Bellamy. Bellamy is expected to lead Kokomo to another decisive win inside Memorial Gymnasium.

Winner: Kokomo

2A #12 Tipton 8-2 vs Northwestern 6-4

Northwestern is still searching for the formula to spark a lengthy winning streak. The Tigers’ up-and-down season faces a tough test Friday night when the Tipton Blue Devils come to town. The Blue Devils are led by Indiana All-Star candidate Grady Carpenter, a versatile star with a deadly and efficient shot from beyond the arc. While Northwestern has the advantage of playing at home, it likely won’t be enough to contain Tipton.

Winner: Tipton

Delphi 6-5 vs Eastern 3-5

All of Eastern’s wins this season have come on their home court, giving the Comets a confidence boost heading into this week’s game against Delphi. The Oracles, like Eastern, have had an up-and-down season. However, Delphi holds an edge with their ability to consistently score more than 50 points, a mark Eastern has surpassed only twice this season. While home-court advantage has been a strength for the Comets, it likely won’t be enough to overcome Delphi.

Winner: Delphi

2A #8 Taylor 10-1 vs Clinton Central 1-9

For the first time this season, Taylor is preparing to take the court following a loss. The Titans suffered their first defeat earlier this week, fueling their determination ahead of a road trip to Clinton Central. Outside of an early-season win over Attica, the Bulldogs have struggled, with defensive issues contributing significantly to their woes. With Indiana Junior All-Star candidate Javionne Harris playing at a high level, the Titans are poised to bounce back in a big way against Clinton Central.

Winner: Taylor

Jay’s stats:
