Howard County Football Week 8 Predictions

Week 8 is full of competitive matchups across the county. The hype surrounding Senior Nights and homecoming games only adds to the buzz under the Friday night lights. Let’s dive into this week’s games and make predictions for the high school football matchups featuring Howard County schools.

McCutcheon 4-3 vs Kokomo 3-3

The Wildkats are picking up steam at the right time of the season. Not only does Kokomo want to win on Senior Night, but the team also wants to be firing on all cylinders heading into its matchup with the McCutcheon Mavericks.

A week ago, the Mavericks gave up 154 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns to a struggling Muncie Central squad — the same Muncie Central team Kokomo shut out. This is one of the many reasons the Wildkats are poised for a win on Senior Night.

Winner: Kokomo

Western 0-7 vs 4A #13 Logansport 6-1

Western's struggles continued last week as the Panthers dropped their seventh game of the season. One bright spot was Western scoring two touchdowns in a game for the first time this season.

The Panthers will need to build on that performance to beat a six-win Logansport team. The Berries are currently on a four-game winning streak and sit atop the Hoosier Conference. During that stretch, they have outscored opponents 163-33. Even Western's best effort may not be enough to beat Logansport on the road.

Winner: Logansport

3A #16 Northwestern vs Peru 3-4

Northwestern bounced back in a big way after its loss to Maconaquah. The Tigers had their best performance of the season, scoring 42 points.

Head coach Caleb Small is preparing his team for another dominant showing against Peru. The Tigers have won only two of their last five games, despite boasting one of the best rushing attacks in the area. Northwestern also has solid offensive weapons, which could be the deciding factor in this game.

Winner: Northwestern

Eastern 3-4 vs Sheridan 4-3

The last time Eastern faced Sheridan, the Comets needed a late touchdown to secure the win. This year's game is expected to be another close contest.

Eastern's defense has been dominant in recent weeks, allowing just six points over that stretch. However, that likely won’t be the case against Sheridan. The Blackhawks’ ground game was unstoppable last week, as they rushed for 441 yards and scored three rushing touchdowns. While Eastern’s defense has been strong, it's hard to imagine they’ll play well enough to beat Sheridan two years in a row.

Winner: Sheridan

Tri-Central 1-6 vs Taylor 3-4

Taylor is on the verge of its first four-win season since 2015 — an accomplishment few expected in 2024. Standing in the way of a homecoming win is Tri-Central.

This year’s Trojans team has struggled defensively, allowing 35 points per game during a five-game losing streak. While Taylor doesn’t have the most prolific offense in the county, the Titans have enough weapons to secure a big Week 8 victory.

Winner: Taylor

Last week: 5-0

All time: 13-2 (started predicting games in week 5)
