Howard County Football Week 5 Predictions

There’s never a bad time to start a new routine, especially when that routine involves predicting winners of high school football games. Throughout the remainder of the season, The Kokomo Post Sports will analyze each matchup and predict the winner of every game featuring a Howard County school.

Kokomo 1-2 vs Lafayette Jefferson 4-0

2024 has been an unusual year for Kokomo. Inclement weather and a surprising loss to Marion are among the reasons the Wildkats secured their first win of the season just a week ago. Standing in the way of Kokomo's quest for back-to-back victories is a talented Lafayette Jefferson squad. The Wildkats will need to bring their A game to spoil the Bronchos' homecoming celebration.

Winner: Lafayette Jefferson

Western 0-4 vs Hamilton Heights 0-4

Most people wouldn't have guessed that both Western and Hamilton Heights would be winless during their Week 5 matchup. Both teams opened their 2024 campaigns with tough schedules. Western's interim head coach Blake Conklin is preparing the Panthers to turn the tide as they begin conference play. As conference play starts, the Panthers should see more success, but it may not be enough to overcome a hungry Huskies squad.

Winner: Hamilton Heights

Whitko 0-4 vs Northwestern 4-0

Northwestern is off to its best start since 2016. First-year head coach Caleb Small has quickly revived the Tigers football program. The only thing standing in the way of the Tigers remaining undefeated is the Whitko Wildcats. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, their upset attempt will likely be unsuccessful. Brock Shank is playing at a high level this year, and the Wildcats won't be able to slow down the Tigers' aerial attack.

Winner: Northwestern

Eastern 1-3 vs Carroll (Flora) 4-0

Eastern is another county school aiming to start a winning streak. The Comets' first win of the season showcased a strong second-half surge from their run game. However, Eastern's path to achieving this goal won’t be easy, as they face a talented Carroll (Flora) team that has dominated them in recent matchups. Unfortunately for Comets fans, this year's game is likely to have the same outcome.

Winner: Carroll (Flora)

Taylor 2-2 vs Clinton Central 2-2

Rob Patchett has begun an exciting new era for Taylor's football program. This new era is off to a great start, as the Titans are enjoying their best season since 2018. Standing in the way of Taylor securing its third win of the year is Hoosier Heartland Conference foe Clinton Central. Taylor and Clinton Central have had some lopsided matchups over the years. While Friday night’s game isn’t expected to be a blowout, it is likely to have the same outcome as last year’s contest.

Winner: Taylor
