Lighting up Kokomo with Glo in the ’Mo
Glo in the ‘Mo is returning downtown to celebrate alongside the First Friday festivities — and you’re invited.
On Friday, Oct. 6, crossing the 5K finish line doesn’t mean the fun is over. With more glow powder, more lights, and a bigger area for the foam cannon at the finish, the Kokomo Family YMCA’s Glo in the ’Mo is back and bigger than ever before.
This race is set to take place along a 3.1-mile route throughout downtown Kokomo on a scenic path through Foster Park, along the Walk of Excellence and around Kokomo Beach. Glow-in-the-dark powder will be distributed at the start/finish line and in various locations along the course, so when runners and walkers hit the UV lights at the finish, they will be glowing from head to toe.
“It’s going to be more of a party atmosphere, we have a few more vendors this year and we’re really excited,” said Tony Budenz, marketing and communication director for the Kokomo Family YMCA.
Runners and walkers of all abilities and ages are invited to join the party atmosphere at this untimed race, which provides the YMCA of Kokomo with scholarship funds to provide assistance to youth, adults and families in the community.
“This event fits in between some of our timed events,” said Budenz. “We did the 5K for the Haynes Apperson Festival, and then we have the Turkey Trot in November, so this one is a bit more relaxed and fun. It’s cool because you don’t see many night runs either.”
“Part of the reason the YMCA exists is to provide community events that are fun and bring families together,” he said.
Hippy Owl Tie Dye will be set up with glow-in-the-dark shirts for sale as well as Passion 8 Creations with handmade crafts, KG Creations with candles and live music from DJ BoomBoxx.
