Kokomo Post Kids: Eat, Play, Learn - Sept. 19
Hey Kokomo! It’s that time of the week again. Our staff with kids are happy to share a few of the places their kids like to eat, play, and learn in and around Howard County. Check out this week’s picks for yourself!
Kokomo Kids Eat
Mini Corn Dogs from Roddy’s in Heritage Lanes
1301 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, IN 46902
(765)453-7781
We aren’t professionals, but we love bowling! Heritage Lanes offers open bowling throughout the week and glow bowling on Friday nights. It’s a great time for families and friends looking for some classic fun. Whenever we are there, the aroma of the food at Roddy’s is difficult to pass up. Roddy’s is not your typical bowling alley food serving up delicious appetizers, burgers, pizzas, and more. Our boys enjoyed some mini corn dogs as an after-school snack and were hungry for more. Mini Corn Dogs are a kids menu option at Roddy’s as well. Check out their menu on the Heritage Lanes website.
Kokomo Kids Play
Youth Sports at the Kokomo Family YMCA
114 N. Union St., Kokomo, IN 46902
(765) 457-4447
For families looking to add some activity to their child’s routine, consider learning to play a new sport at the Kokomo YMCA. Fall youth sports including soccer, basketball, volleyball, and sports medley are open for registration now. Membership is not required to participate in youth sports, but the program costs are lower for active Kokomo YMCA members. Youth work directly with an adult coach and have the chance to learn new skills and play alongside peers and friends. My family is specifically interested in the Sports Medley program, and the Little Dribblers program. However, there are many opportunities for youth as young as 3 and as old as 14. You can find more information on all of the current programs and how to get registered on the Kokomo Family YMCA website.
Kokomo Kids Learn
Storytime and Pottery Painting Workshops at Fired Arts Studios
111 W. Sycamore St. Kokomo, IN 46901
(765) 450-3088
This is a series of workshops being provided by Fired Arts Studios, our favorite local pottery painting studio in downtown Kokomo. You should check out the new location on Sycamore Street. Artists ages 3 and older are welcome to express themselves by decorating a beautiful piece of pottery at the studio with a parent or guardian. The workshop will begin with a story read aloud and then transition to a fun themed project related to the story. Participants are bringing part of the story to life using their own creative abilities! A reservation is required because seating is limited. The next workshop will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, September 20. The group will be reading “Little Elliot, Fall Friends” by Mike Curato and painting a plate pottery piece. The length of time to complete your pottery piece depends on the speed and effort of the artist, but participants are allowed to paint for the entire length of the workshop. You can register online and find more details about this workshop and more on their website.
