Kokomo Post Kids: Eat, Play, Learn - Oct. 17
Hey Kokomo! It’s that time of the week again. Our staff with kids are happy to share a few of the places their kids like to eat, play, and learn in and around Howard County. Check out this week’s picks for yourself!
Kokomo Kids Eat
Treats from Hainlen Orchard
5588 N. 1250 East, Converse, IN | (765) 395-3274
https://hainlenorchard.com/
There is more than just apples at Hainlen Orchard, and it is worth the extra drive time from Kokomo. Hainlen Orchard sells many Indiana Grown local products in its farm store, and we sampled a delicious caramel apple and apple dumpling during our visit. The store offered a variety of apple products, including regular and cherry-flavored cider, donuts, soaps, jams, honey sticks, and more. Families or groups can take advantage of the opportunity to pick apples and use the antique press to make their own cider. This weekend, there will be a special opportunity to learn about and enjoy popcorn at the orchard, with specials related to popcorn. Visit the orchard or learn more by following Hainlen Orchard on Facebook.
Kokomo Kids Play
Playaway Launchpad Tablets from the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library
https://www.khcpl.org/
With a library card, the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library offers plenty of resources. Our family loves checking out the Launchpads for long car rides, giving the kids some independent playtime. These tablets are pre-loaded with educational games or videos and don’t require Wi-Fi. Each Launchpad comes with a non-slip protective cover, charging cable, and plug. All three library branches have a selection of Launchpads featuring various subjects and activities. Once you're done, simply return the Launchpad at the front desk of any KHCPL branch.
Kokomo Kids Learn
The Children’s Library at Financial Center Credit Union
1935 S. Dixon, Road, Kokomo, IN 46902 | (765)213-2079
https://www.fcfcu.com/
Financial Center is a new financial institution in Kokomo, with a branch located on Dixon Road. It offers all the benefits of credit union membership, along with a unique partnership with Ball State University in Muncie. At the Kokomo branch, you'll find a financial library in the customer waiting area, which serves as a great resource for adults to learn about money and finances. There’s also a special section with books, activities, and coloring pages for kids. Teaching children about saving and spending can have a big impact, so consider starting with their first savings account. Visit the Financial Center website for more details on personal and business banking services.
