The Coterie’s Immersive Halloween Pop-Up Experience

If you're looking for a thrilling way to get into the Halloween spirit, look no further than The Coterie in downtown Kokomo. Known for its quirky and edgy vibe, live music, and unique entertainment, The Coterie has once again transformed its space into a can't-miss spectacle. This year, the bar has gone all out with an immersive pop-up experiences all year long and this one is sure to give you chills—in the best way possible!

Kyle Gibson, owner of The Coterie, gave us the scoop on this year's Halloween transformation.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be working with Bohemian Events and Entertainment again to bring the best immersive experience in the state to Kokomo, Indiana,” Gibson said. “We hope you can bring your friends and enjoy the space we’ve created.”

For this spooky season, Gibson has been collaborating with Kristin Boor, owner and designer of Bohemian Events and Entertainment, who is known for her jaw-dropping design skills. Just a few months ago, Boor and her team transformed The Coterie into “The Forbidden Island,” a tiki-themed paradise filled with island decor, skull-embedded walls, and even a life-sized volcano. The transformation was so impressive Gibson said he decided to keep the tiki décor through the end of the year.

This time around, Boor has added a dark and eerie twist to the tropical theme—just in time for Halloween.

“When Kyle decided to keep the tiki pop-up through the rest of the year, I was thrilled,” Boor said. “I wanted to keep the tiki feel alive but add a layer of spooky to the whole space.”

Boor and her core team, Maddison Boucher and Ellery Bennet, spent a staggering 93 hours over four days transforming the bar into a spider-infested jungle. Boor said they used more than 8,000 square feet of webbing and hundreds of spiders—some as large as 13 feet. Of course, they didn’t stop there; expect to find plenty of spider egg sacks and even a huge nest to complete the creepy atmosphere.

The Coterie is also offering an interactive experience with a tarot card reader on Friday and Saturday nights, adding yet another layer to the immersive experience.

“She’s our voodoo mistress who has placed the curse on the forbidden island,” Boor said.

Boor said she is already planning the next iteration of the pop-up.

“Our next evolution will be our Christmas tiki, ‘Sleigh on Sycamore!’ Boor said. “I’m so excited to create a new version of the tiki bar and incorporate my favorite holiday of the year, Christmas! December will be holidays on the island at The Coterie.”

Alongside the chilling decor, The Coterie has created a festive menu that’s perfect for Halloween. Satisfy your cravings with food items like the “Monster Smash [burger]” and the “Booger Burger” smothered in green mayo. For drinks, sip on the “Spider Brew” or take a “Korn Candy Shot” for a spooky treat.

With themed food, drinks, and an unforgettable atmosphere, The Coterie’s Halloween pop-up is a must for all Halloween enthusiasts. The pop-up runs now through Nov. 3, so don’t miss your chance to experience it and be on the lookout on The Coterie’s facebook page for details to drop about their 2024 Halloween party, costume contest and more.
