Kokomo Kids Eat:

Tutti Frutti Sprite from Hydration Station

700 E. Firmin St., Kokomo, IN 46902

(765) 626-3555

While running errands around town this week, the backseat gang requested drinks because they “were SO thirsty.” My oldest currently has a fondness for all things “fancy” and asked to go to a fancy drink place. So I quickly turned onto Hoffer Street, heading to Hydration Station’s Kokomo location in the Inventrek Building on East Firmin Street. They have so many options for “fancy” drinks in the eyes of a Kokomo kid. I was looking for an option without caffeine and one that would have a fun and sweet taste the boys would love. We found that the Tutti Frutti with Sprite has the fancy fizz of Sprite and a sweet fruit flavor with marshmallows. My youngest took the first drink and quickly stole the two mini gummy bears sitting on the lid. They were all smiles as they quietly sipped on their fancy drinks during the drive home. You can stop for drinks at this location in Kokomo or the original location in Greentown.

Kokomo Kids Play:

Go on an Evening Walk

As the school year begins and fall approaches, I am sure to encourage my family to be outside as often as possible. Outdoor play opportunities are widespread in Kokomo. You can visit our local parks, play in the yard or neighborhood, attend local sporting events, and take to a path for a walk, run, or bike ride. My family enjoys walking and running often as members of Club Kokomo Roadrunners (the organization that bring us the annual Coyote Kids program). It’s truly one of our favorite things to do before bedtime. After eating dinner and playing together or getting home from an event we wind down and go for a walk. Depending on the ages of your family, you might set a time for your walk and keep it short or use a stroller to go the distance. Either way, walking is a healthy habit to add to your family’s activities. If you are looking for a local walking path or trail, the Kokomo Parks & Recreation Department has compiled a list with all of the details on its website. Remember to always stay alert and aware of your surroundings as a pedestrian.

Kokomo Kids Learn:

Monthly Book Bags from the Very Early Childhood Education Center

210 W. Walnut St., Kokomo, IN 46901

(765)252-3995

Reading is one of my kids’ favorite ways to learn about something new and the Very Early Childhood Education Center wants to help your family grow your home library by offering free monthly book bags for children up to age 6. We’re so lucky to have the Very Early Childhood Education Center — or the caterpillar room, as my kids call it — because it is also a great place to play. You can visit Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to register for a monthly book bag or email stacieecec@gmail.com. Each bag contains a new book and an age-appropriate craft or science activity.  Bags can be delivered to those families that live within the Kokomo City limits, but all are welcome to register and pick up bags from the education center in person each month.
