Celebrating National Women’s History Month

As we step into March, we are embracing National Women’s History Month. It’s a time to celebrate the accomplishments, resilience, and the spirit of women throughout history and society. At the Kokomo Post, we're dedicated to fostering learning and exploration, and this month, we’ve partnered with local gems SOL House: Spirit of Life Books & Gathers and the insightful Erin Soutar from Soutar Reads to curate a collection of empowering reads for all ages.

Nestled in the heart of downtown Kokomo, SOL House has recently reopened it’s door welcoming families into their charming and educating space. More than just a bookstore, it’s a sanctuary for community engagement and connection. SOL House offers a variety of books suitable for all ages that are available for purchase with a donation to the nonprofit organization. Notably, their enchanting children’s reading room has become a beloved haven for young readers, fostering a love for books from an early age.

When we approached SOL House about collaborating for National Women’s History Month, they didn’t hesitate to recommend SOL House enthusiasy Erin Soutar, a passionate advocate for education and literature. Soutar’s dedication to sharing captivating book recommendations through her platform, Soutar Reads, made her the perfect person for this job. With an impressive track record of devouring more than 100 books in 2023 alone, Soutar’s mission is to enlighten and inspire readers of all ages.

Here are Soutar’s top five recommendations for exploring the lives and legacies of influential women, carefully curated for both adults and children:

“The Taliban shot Malala at the age of 15 after speaking out against them and choosing to continue her education. As a survivor, she continues her pursuits and advocates for women’s education and women’s rights. Her story can be read through her words in her novel, ‘I Am Malala.’”
