Bona Vista Programs and Developmental Services, Inc. (DSI) invites the public to an inspiring evening celebrating the creativity and talent of artists in its Adult Day Services. The Inclusive Vision Art Show will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday Nov. 8, at The Crossing Art Gallery, located at 1221 S. Plate St., Kokomo.

The exhibition will feature a vibrant array of artwork, including upcycled clothing such as jeans and jean jackets, as well as other creative pieces—all primarily made from recycled materials. This approach encourages participants to tap into their creativity by repurposing items that might otherwise be discarded.

The show highlights the artistic process as a valuable tool for cognitive development, with contributions from more than 40 participants ranging in age from 18 to 70.

“It’s important for individuals in Adult Day Services to experience the creative process and the joy it brings,” said Annie Lightsey, coordinator of education and enrichment at Bona Vista. “Art allows them to express themselves while also enhancing cognitive skills.”

In addition to fostering individual creativity, the collaborative nature of the art classes helps build social-emotional learning through teamwork, and the program includes lessons on different art mediums, artists and creating art for various holidays, seasons and cultures.

“The collaborative work and team-building in these classes are essential for developing social-emotional skills,” added Aimee Walden, art instructor at Bona Vista. “The class plays an important role in meeting the diverse needs of our participants.”

Visitors to the event will have the opportunity to purchase unique items from the art show, with proceeds from some pieces directly benefiting the artists in Bona Vista’s Adult Day Services program.

“We’re thrilled to host an event that not only celebrates the creativity of these artists but also supports the vital services we provide,” Lightsey said.

In addition to the art exhibit, visitors can shop at the Gallery Gift Shop, where additional handmade items will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting the artists at Bona Vista.

This free event invites the community to enjoy an evening of inspiration, creativity, and support for local artists.
