Being a parent or caregiver to a little one is no easy task and sometimes everyone needs a playdate or change of environment. Our staff has gathered a master list of local programs and activities that are perfect for little ones ages 0-3. Be sure to visit the source directly for more information on when and where these programs/activities are held. Updated March 2024.

Literacy, Music and Educational Play

    Babes in Storyland | Ages 0-2 | Mondays from 11-11:30 a.m.
    Enjoy a story and playtime in a small group setting with other little ones and their caregivers. Call the library to save your spot for Babes in Storyland Storytime.

    Mother Goose | 3 year olds | Wednesdays from 10:30-11 a.m.
    Visit with other toddlers and their caregivers during a special story time and playtime for 3 year olds. Be sure to call the library to reserve your spot in the Mother Goose Storytime group.

    Mess Makers with Ms. Deanna | All ages | Once a month on Wednesdays from 10:30-11 a.m.
    A new story time group with a twist on your normal library fun! Call to register your family for the Mess Makers group and see all the fun that comes with a little mess.

  • Growing Readers-Tiny Tykes at KHCPL
    Various locations and times | Recommended Ages 0-2


    The Kokomo Howard County Public Library offers Growing Readers (or story time) with flexible times and locations for families with children under 5 years old. Tiny Tykes is the youngest group of readers, the experience is designed to be a nurturing and engaging experience for children and their caregivers. Each meeting offers story time, puppets, musical instruments, colorful scarves, bubbles, and more!

  • Kindermusik- Wiggle & Grow at KHCPL
    Various locations and times | For children ages 18 months-3 years old

    KHCPL offers many activities for little ones to help with literacy and cognitive development. Kindermusik is offered at varying times and multiple of our KHCPL locations. If you’ve never attended before, it's a short and engaging experience where toddlers get to sing, dance, and play musical instruments.   • Music Together Class at Rhum Academy of Music

    Studies have shown that by exposing your children to music at an early age can increase language and brain development. It’s even more valuable when these experiences with music can occur alongside a  trusted caregiver. This NEW music class is available to children ages birth-4 years old to explore music with a caregiver through singing, dancing, and listening, and playing with instruments. The classes are held weekly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning at 10:30 AM for half an hour. Class sizes are limited and you can email rhummusic@gmail.com for registration information.

  • New Baby Bunch at KHCPL South | Mondays from 9:30-11 a.m.

    For caregivers of babies 0-12 months old and older siblings

    The New Baby Bunch meets weekly on Mondays at KHCPL South. This group is a great place to meet fellow caregivers. Being a first-time parent or caregiver can be difficult so this group is available to all looking for friendship, support, and the chance to share in their parenting journey. You can view all of the events happening at our libraries by visiting their website and clicking on the “events” tab.

  • The Very Early Childhood Education Center

    The ultimate play-space for preschoolers, the Very Early Childhood Education Center is open in their new location. They are open Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. With each visit, children receive a free book and age appropriate learning activity. There are so many opportunities to play and learn at this free, open to the public resource center. In addition to their main play space, they have a STEM/Sensory room that houses additional toys and learning activities that encourage hands-on play and building construction/engineering. Nature and Outdoor Activities


  • Kirkendall Interpretive Nature Center at Jackson Morrow Park

    The Kirkendall Nature Center is currently operating on their winter schedule with open hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and weekends. The nature center is home to many Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department (KPRD) activities including creature features throughout the summer months. If you’ve never visited the nature center, it is a great place to learn more about local wildlife species, plants and insects. In addition to the preserved and live animals, the nature center has games, books, and other hands-on activities for the whole family to enjoy.

  • Nature Explore Outdoor Classroom at KHCPL Russiaville

    Children of all ages are welcome to learn and play at the Nature Explore Outdoor Classroom at KHCPL Russiaville. It’s most appropriate for ages 2-7, but child development research suggests that children need and benefit from spending time outdoors. Events and programs are regularly hosted in this space. Patrons can check out a backpack or toys that can be borrowed during your visit and played with outside as well.

Water Program and Activities


  • Al Berryman Park Splash Pad
    105 W. Elm St., Kokomo, IN 46901

    A free facility that was added in 2018, this special spot sits along the Industrial Heritage Trail and is a great place to cool off. The splash pad is free and open seasonally from Spring through the Fall with a public restroom available year round. Your family will love the “under the sea” theme and the shark taking a big bite to eat.

  • Kokomo Beach Swimming Lessons and Splash Pad

    Swimming lessons are offered during the day at Kokomo Beach in three 2-week sessions. When registration opens, forms will be available at the Kokomo Parks & Recreation Department (KPRD) Office, Kokomo Beach, and on the City of Kokomo Website. Follow KPRD on Facebook for updates. In addition to all the fun the big kids can have on the slides and pool, your littles will love playing in the splash pad. Water sprays in all directions and allows for an extra fun time with family and little friends. Kokomo Beach is open seasonally from May-August. Admission for youth ages 2-11 is $5 and children 23 months and under are free.

  • Kokomo Family YMCA Swimming Lessons and Tot Spot

    Children as young as 6 months old through youth age 13 can register for swimming lessons at the Kokomo Family YMCA with sessions available throughout the year. Classes are then broken down by age group and stage based on comfort and skill level. Contact Alyssa Lagoni at (765) 457-4447 or alyssa.lagoni@kokomoymca.org for more information. The program pool and lap pool are home to many classes and activities so you’ll want to be sure to check the schedule for open swim availability. If you’ve visited the YMCA pool before you’ve noticed, the shallow section of the program pool with the water toys, aka the Tot Spot. It’s a great place for younger kids to play and splash in the water.

  • Western Aquatics Department’s Preschool Swim

    As a fundraiser for the Western Aquatics Department, swimming lessons are offered in the spring for children of all ages. Typically in early March you can find more information about the dates and cost of swimming lessons through Western School Corporation’s Social Media pages. Gross Motor Development Activities


  • Coyote Kids Summer Running Program

    As soon as a child learns to walk it seems like they want to always RUN! The Club Kokomo Roadrunners, a local non-profit and organized local running club hosts the Coyote Kids FREE Summer Running Program for Kids ages 0-18. The program is 6 weeks on Thursdays beginning in June. Each week a child runs he/she will receive a ribbon and a popsicle at the finish line. It’s perfect for little runners because they offer untimed toddler races in 25 yard and 50 yard distances.   • Fierce Yoga’s Family Yoga Class

    Check out the new Family Yoga Class being offered monthly at Fierce Yoga. The whole family is welcome to come and enjoy a friendly flow suitable for all levels and ages. The class enjoyed some short dance parties, meditation, and a special group activity in addition to the yoga flow.   • Gravity Trampoline Park’s Toddler Time

    Check out Gravity Trampoline Park with your little ones. Fridays from 4-5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10- 11 a.m. is Toddler Time where ages 6 and under (and their caretaker) can jump for $8 per hour. This special time allows for the little jumpers to have the whole park to themselves with lower kid-friendly music. Gravity Trampoline Park is a great way to enjoy your day with food, music, and fun. Don’t forget your Gravity grip socks!

  • KokoGo Bike Share

    Looking for a fun way to explore Kokomo with your family?  The KokoGo Bike Share program is located a t the trailhead crossing between the Industrial Heritage Trail and the Wildcat Creek Walk of Excellence. KokoGo offers Adult, Children's, Tagalong and Tandem Bikes as well as Trikes, Helmets and Bike Locks. You must be 18 to check out a bike rental with a state issued ID and a credit/debit card on file. KokoGo rentals will be available in the Spring (weekends only) with expanded hours between Memorial Day and Labor Day before it closes in the Fall.   • Kokomo Flipsters

    For little ones, Kokomo Flipsters offer a Mommy & Me class for children 18 months-36 months and a Tumble Bear Gym Program for boys and girls ages 18 months- 4 years old.   • Kokomotion

    Kokomotion offers training for children as young as 18 months with their Preschool For All program. They offer many class options including tumbling and recreational gymnastics in addition to their competitive team program.   You can access classes and availability through the parent portal on their website or call 765-453-7461 with any questions.

  • Kokomo Soccer Club

    A special non-competitive division for children ages 2-3 will teach the basics of soccer for 8 weeks in a fun environment. Registration opens in early December (Spring) and May (Fall) until all the spots are filled.   • Kristie Wright School of Dance

    With locations in both Kokomo and Logansport, Kristie Wright School of Dance is an established studio boasting 52 years of dance education along with certification in the Cecchetti Method designed to prepare students for a professional career in ballet. Beginning with dancers as young as age 2,  the Kristie Wright Kokomo location offers ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, and progressing ballet technique. For our tiny dancers they currently offer a Wiggle and Giggles class for ages 2+.

  • Legacy Dance Academy

    Legacy Dance Academy is offering a new weekly class called Wiggles & Giggles for boys and girls ages 18 months to 3 years old. The class is a great opportunity to spend time with a caregiver practicing their motor skills and listening skills with some basic stretches, dance steps, and an obstacle course. Classes are 45 minutes and are held on Wednesdays from 10:30-11:15 a.m. Registration is open now for the next 4 week session beginning right after Thanksgiving. Be sure to contact Legacy Dance Academy for more information about this new class or other classes available at this time.

  • PlayPen Sports Academy

    With opportunities to play for children as young as 2 years old, PlayPen Sports Academy has brought game time for tots to Kokomo. They are now offering Soccer, Baseball, Basketball, and their PlayActive classes in Kokomo at Bible Baptist church during their respective seasons.
