A Journey Through Time: The Peru Amateur Circus Returns
Nestled in the heart of Indiana, the Peru Amateur Circus is a living testament to the enduring allure of the big top. And from July 12 through 20, you’ll have 10 chances to see it for yourself.
For decades, children ages 7 to 21 have helped bring this enchanting thrill of the circus to life, captivating audiences with its dazzling performances and community pride.

“We try hard to make sure that every kid that tries out can be at least in one act, so everyone can have the opportunity to grow and go up in the ranks. As the kids get older, the acts get more and more difficult. By the time some of them are teenagers, they can do some pretty cool things,” said Stacy Makowski, co-vice president of publicity at the Peru Circus.
“They put on a show as good as any professional show. It blows me away with what these kids can do.”
Each year, the circus comes alive with the talents of local youth, who spend countless hours perfecting their acts. From daring aerialists and agile acrobats to charismatic clowns the performers spend most of the year working to bring their skills and passion to the ring. Their dedication and enthusiasm are palpable, creating an atmosphere of excitement that resonates with every spectator.
Makowski said one of the most remarkable aspects of the Peru Amateur Circus is its commitment to training and nurturing young talent. The circus offers a comprehensive training program that not only hones physical skills but also instills values of discipline, teamwork and perseverance.
Under the guidance of experienced coaches, the performers undergo rigorous training sessions that prepare them for the grand stage.
