Welcome to What Drew Orders, a series on The Kokomo Post where Drew shows off great local restaurants in Kokomo and specifically what he likes to order at those restaurants.
The American steakhouse. It’s a staple to American restaurant culture. There’s something about walking into a place that oozes steak skill confidence. Normally, steakhouses give off a fancy vibe or seem like a place you don’t show up in casual wear. For the fellas, you put on some nice pants and a shirt with buttons. For the ladies, maybe a nice dress or that fancy blouse you bought and never wear. But if you’ve ever been to Marble The Steakhouse in downtown Kokomo, you know that is not the case.
Marble touts itself as an “upscale dining experience in a casual atmosphere.” Honestly, it’s the truth. When you go to Marble, you’re going to get some of the highest-quality food in Kokomo without any kind of pressure to look fancy. For me, a guy who literally only dresses up for weddings and funerals, I’m here for it.
Now, before I get into what I order, I want to warn all of you steak lovers. It’s not the ribeye. And I know people will be asking “Why would he not order the ribeye? The ribeye is obviously the best cut of steak known to man.” Well, I’ve learned that cooking a steak at home and eating a steak at a steakhouse are two completely different experiences, financially. The ribeye is a fatty cut of meat. When you’re eating at a steakhouse, you’re paying for fat that ultimately will not be consumed. I want to pay for what I’m going to eat. When you’re cooking a ribeye at home, the cost of steak is a lot lower because you’re the one doing the cooking.
So, what do I order at Marble? That’s a great question; I’d love to tell you. Marble has a pretty wide selection of steak cuts, but my go-to is always the New York strip cooked medium rare+. If medium rare is a little too rare for your taste, you can always order it + and get a medium rare steak cooked a little bit more than normal. A quality New York strip steak is the best combination of the flavor of a ribeye and the tenderness of a filet, and that is what you get every time at Marble. I don’t just order a New York strip, I also get it with the blue cheese crust. It adds a whole new level of flavor to the steak and makes it even more delicious.
Now, one of the best parts about a steakhouse is the selection of sides you can get with your main dish. Marble is no exception. They have a wide selection of sides from vegetables to macaroni and cheese to loaded mashed potatoes. However, the side dish I order EVERY SINGLE TIME is the roasted Brussels sprouts au gratin. This side dish is not just my favorite side dish at Marble; it’s also one of my favorite things to order in all of Kokomo. The Brussels sprouts are served in the stainless steel cauldron that adds such a fun plating element to your meal. The sprouts themselves are crispy and crunchy in the best way and then covered in this creamy, cheesy sauce. Now, fair warning, this is RICH. I normally can’t eat all of them in one setting. They do make for excellent leftovers the next day, however.
So if you’re looking for steakhouse quality, but not in a stuck-up or fancy environment, I highly recommend Marble The Steakhouse in beautiful downtown Kokomo.
