The Kokomo Post Kids: Weekly Fun Calendar Aug. 5


It’s easy to say that Kokomo is so boring when you don’t know what’s going on in town. Even our kids love telling us how dull life can get when your days all look the same. We’re here with a new weekly fun calendar, hoping to encourage you and your family to try something new and experience more of what Kokomo has to offer. Here’s something you can do with your kids every day this week! Take a look and tell them we sent you!


  • Monday, Aug. 5, 2024

    • Open Play at the Very Early Childhood Education Center

      Recommended Ages 0-5 Kindergarten Readiness

      This Monday is PJ and Teddy Bear Day! Wear your PJs and bring your favorite stuffy to your favorite place to play. The Very Early Childhood Education Center has open play hours on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday each week. With each visit, children receive a free book and age appropriate learning activity. Their play space includes toys, buildings that inspire imaginative play, and learning activities that encourage hands-on play and building construction/engineering.       For children ages 18 months-5 years old

      KHCPL offers many activities for little ones to help with literacy and cognitive development. Kindermusik is offered at varying times and multiple of our KHCPL locations. If you’ve never attended before, it's a short and engaging experience where toddlers get to sing, dance, and play musical instruments.   • Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024

    • Visit the Kokomo Humane Society Cat Cafe | 10 a.m.- 5 p.m.

      Visiting the Cat Cafe is the puurrrfect idea of some weekday fun with your family. Anyone may walk in to the Cat Cafe, but to enter the cat colony it costs $5 per person/per hour (free for kids younger than 10, but must be at least 3 years old to enter the cat colony). Everyone must review the cat colony rules and sign a waiver before entering. Your family will love the chance to play and cuddle with these 10-20 friendly felines.       Large Group Study | Art Group at 4 p.m. and Writing Group at 5:05 p.m.
      Middle School and High School age youth

      If your teens are creative and enjoy art and  writing, they should join the Teen Art Group or Teen Writers Group at the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library’s main location. The groups are meant for youth in middle school and high school and meet consecutively on Thursdays in the large group study. This is a great opportunity for our teens to be creative and meet new people.

      Fun for the whole family

      Watching our Kokomo Jackrabbits play ball is a great way to spend a summer evening with your family and friends. Watch the Jackrabbits take on the Kalamazoo Growlers in their final weekend of the 2024 season from the backyard seats or reserved seats in the stadium. You can purchase tickets online or at the stadium, but be sure to check their promotional schedule for games that will feature fireworks and extra fun.

      Squishy & Friends at the Kirkendall Nature Center

      11 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

      Reptile Rex with Squishy & Friends will be joining us at the Kirkendall Nature Center this Saturday. This event is Free and open to the public. The Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department is the sponsor of this event as a part of their 2024 Creature Feature event series. Visitors will get an interactive learning “close encounter” with many different species of snakes and reptiles from all over the world!

    • Play Mini-Golf and more at City of Firsts Adventure Park | 1-7 p.m.

      Fun for the whole family

      We are so excited to play at City of Firsts Adventure Park. There’s fun and competition for the whole family whether you want to take a swing at the batting cages, score on your favorite mini-golf course, or race to the finish line on the go-karts. Before entering the park, everyone must complete and sign a waiver. More information, including pricing and age or height requirements can be found on the City of Firsts Adventure Park Website.
