The Kokomo Post Kids: Weekly Fun Calendar Aug. 19


It’s easy to say that Kokomo is so boring when you don’t know what’s going on in town. Even our kids love telling us how dull life can get when your days all look the same. We’re here with a new weekly fun calendar, hoping to encourage you and your family to try something new and experience more of what Kokomo has to offer. Here’s something you can do with your kids every day this week! Take a look and tell them we sent you!


  • Monday, Aug. 19, 2024

    • Go Wild Outside at KHCPL Russiaville | 10-11 a.m.

    Each Monday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., the staff at KHCPL Russiaville creates multiple kid-friendly outdoor activities in the Nature Explore Outdoor Classroom based on a special theme. If you’ve never been before, there is a climbing wall, art space, sensory areas with a water table and sand pit, musical instruments and more! Kids up to 5 years old and their caregiver will love being outside and exploring new things by playing with new friends.       Recommended Ages 0-5 Kindergarten Readiness

      The Very Early Childhood Education Center has open play hours on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday each week. With each visit, children receive a free book and age appropriate learning activity. Their play space includes toys, buildings that inspire imaginative play, and learning activities that encourage hands-on play and building construction/engineering.     • Go on a bike ride with KokoGo Bike Share | 4-8 p.m.

      Fun for the whole family

      Our local bike share is open for the season. Get ready to KokoGO! This is a great way to explore downtown Kokomo with family or friends. To check out a bike rental you must be 18 years old, provide a state-issued ID, and have a credit/debit card held on file in case fees. The bike share has expanded to offer adult, children’s, trikes, tagalong, and tandem bikes as well as helmets and bike locks.   • Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024

    • Eat at McDonald’s for Family McFun Night, 5-8 p.m.
      All Kokomo locations

      Our local Kokomo McDonalds host their Family McFun nights every Thursday. Different activities and supplies are provided for families to enjoy and meal together with some extra fun. Common activities include games, art, and special activities for the holidays. Each location may offer a different activity alongside the family fun.

  • Friday, Aug. 23, 2024

    • Open Bowling at Heritage Lanes | 5-11 p.m.

      Fun for the whole family

      End your week with some fun and call Heritage lanes to check for open bowling availability. They have open bowling from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m on Friday and a group of five can bowl for an hour for $45 (that includes those fancy bowling shoes). After that, they begin their Glow Bowl experience from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Bowling is an easy and fun activity for the whole family and you can grab some grub at Roddy’s while you’re there.     • Listen to Nucklehead on the KHCPL South Firefly Stage

      The Kokomo-Howard County Public Library is hosting Nucklehead, a veteran central Indiana based band, for a community concert at the new Firefly stage at KHCPL South. This event is held at the library after hours and will be a great experience to share with your family and friends.     • Visit the Kirkendall Interpretive Nature Center at Jackson Morrow Park

      Fun for the Whole Family

      The Kirkendall Nature Center is currently operating on their summer schedule with open hours Tuesday through Sunday. The nature center is home to many Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department (KPRD) activities including creature features throughout the summer months. If you’ve never visited the nature center, it is a great place to learn more about local wildlife species, plants and insects. In addition to the preserved and live animals, the nature center has games, books, and other hands-on activities for the whole family to enjoy.
