This event, which aims to celebrate Dr. King’s commitment to love, kindness and generosity, will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Carver Community Center, located at 1030 N. Purdum St., Kokomo.

JC Barnett III, the executive director of the Carver Community Center, emphasized the importance of service in honoring Dr. King’s legacy.

“It’s really about serving a community organization. There’s a lot of programming for MLK Day just about himself, but Dr. King was about service. I think it’s a great opportunity to recognize him on his birthday,” Barnett said.

Participants will engage in various service projects, including assembling furniture for flexible seating arrangements for the children at the Carver Community Center. The event will also feature a march to the Apperson Way MLK monument in Kokomo.

Following lunch, attendees can enjoy an inspiring MLK program featuring spoken word performances, musical acts, and guest speakers at 12:45 p.m.

To participate in this united effort to serve and honor Dr. King’s legacy, pre-registration is encouraged to receive a free t-shirt. This day of service not only pays tribute to a civil rights icon but also strengthens community bonds right here in Kokomo.
