The Sweetest Way to Cool Off: New Shaved Ice Business Opens in Kokomo!
Summer is officially here in Kokomo, and if you’re looking for a sweet way to cool off, we’ve found just the place for you! Snow Storm Shaved Ice has just opened up shop on the north end of Kokomo, located at Gano and North Market streets. (For those who navigate by landmarks, it’s right beside where the iconic We Care Park used to be.)
This charming little shack operates out of a traveling trailer, making it mobile for future events. But, for now, Gano and Market is its home base. Keep an eye on their Facebook page, as owner Vickie Reisetter said they might pop up at local events.
We decided to stop by to grab a sweet treat and chat with Vickie about her new venture.
“I opened this business because I lived down south for 15 years, where I just fell in love with these delicious icy treats,” Reisetter said. “Since moving to the Midwest, I’ve had a hard time finding any that matched what I loved. After extensive research and with the support of my awesome hubby, I decided to quit my job and open my own shaved ice business.”
Snow Storm Shaved Ice offers unique options and flavor combinations that Kokomo hasn't seen before, she said. Some fun flavors that caught our attention were key lime pie, wedding cake, dreamsicle, and a locally themed flavor, Bobkat Blood, playfully named after the Kokomo Bobkats basketball team.
When you stop by Snow Storm, expect a bowl piled high with shaved ice, flavored with your choice of unique flavors. But the fun doesn't stop there. Vickie also offers a variety of toppings such as whipped cream, syrups, sour spray, cotton candy, and snow cap (a cream added for extra flavor).
Vickie said she offers 34 flavors that can be mixed and matched, along with a daily special and a few special menu items.
You can learn more about their products and services by checking out their Facebook page.
The hours are 5 to 8 p.m. (or later!) Monday-Wednesday, and 1 to 8 p.m. (or later!) Thursday-Sunday. As long as there are customers, they'll stay open, Reisetter says!
