Spookiest Places In & Around Kokomo — Part 2

Hey Kokomo! Ghost stories. Cooler weather. Creepy dark nights. Halloween decorations are everywhere. It’s spooky season, y’all. This is one of our favorite times of the year. Haunted houses? Yes, please. Ghost stories? All-day. Scary movie marathons? Yas.

For the second year in a row, we’ve asked around about the spookiest places in and around Kokomo. Here’s what you had to say:

Seiberling Mansion - 1200 W Sycamore St, Kokomo, IN 46901

The Seiberling Mansion may in fact be the most iconic Kokomo location. The building of the mansion began in 1889 and was finished in 1891 in the height of the gas boom and is now a tourist attraction for visitors and a centerpiece of community pride. The rumors of paranormal activity at the mansion have been going on for years and many people have claimed to have witnessed what they believe to be paranormal activity and some even claim to have seen full-body apparitions. One of the most popular paranormal rumors about the Seiberling Mansion is that there have been several sightings of a woman rocking in a chair in one of the upstairs rooms.

Gateway Gardens Apartments - 800 E Hoffer St, Kokomo, IN 46902

This one was a little surprising to us here at The Kokomo Post considering we haven’t heard the rumors about the apartment complex. But, we have recently learned that many residents over the years claim to have experienced paranormal activities while residing there. The apartment complex located on Hoffer street was apparently built over an old graveyard and supposedly the bodies were relocated. Some residents have claimed to experience things such as feeling uneasy and like they were being watched while others experienced more intense activity like hearing eerie voices talking, their TVs turning on and off in the middle of the night and hearing children giggling. One resident even claimed to experience their dresser falling to the floor as if it were pushed over and their bed floating an inch off of the ground!

Fade Salon - 507 N Buckeye St, Kokomo, IN 46901

One of Kokomo’s coolest salons may also be one of its most haunted. The staff at Fade Salon say plainly that the ghost of a little girl in a white dress lives in the same building as their salon -- and she isn’t here to play. The staff told the Kokomo Post that hairdryers with automatic timers, which hadn’t been used for hours, have been known to flip on by themselves; styling product has mysteriously fallen off of completely level shelves, and people have felt as if they were being pushed in the area where the ghost is said to reside.

Adams Mill - County Road S 75 E Cutler, IN 46920

Adams Mill is located in Cutler, Indiana, about 20 miles from Kokomo. Built in 1845 by John Adams and was once a grist mill producing assorted grades of flour for more than 100 years. Today, Adams Mill is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a museum of early rural Americana, open to the public. Over the year of being open to the public, it has become a popular place for paranormal enthusiasts to gather for investigations. Ghost trackers claim to have seen a lot of activity at Adams Mill including things being kicked over or thrown at them, items falling from the ceiling but the most eerie, voices being captured through devices and claims of paranormal communication happening with flashlights. Paranormal investigators say they have had great success in communicating with the afterlife by asking questions and getting responses by flashlights being placed across the room and flickering, dimming or even turning on and off in response to their questions.

So, there it is. Our 2021 list of spooky places in and around Kokomo, Indiana. Do you have any spots we should know about that didn’t make our list? Let us know!
