Samaritan Caregivers Named First Nonprofit in CommuniTee Giveback

The Kokomo Post is thrilled to announce the first partner for our new CommuniTee Giveback Program, a nonprofit that has been doing work in the local community for nearly 25 years.

“We are so pleased to partner with Samaritan Caregivers for the first month of our CommuniTee Giveback,” said Drew Larison, founder of the Kokomo Post. “This organization has been providing dignity and independence to seniors for so many years, and we are excited to help raise awareness and funds for Samaritan Caregivers and 10 other nonprofits this year.”

Each month through the CommuniTee Giveback Program, the Post and Expressions Design Co. create fresh, unique, handcrafted merchandise for a single nonprofit, and 100% of the net proceeds from the sale of the merch goes directly to the organization.

Traditionally, Samaritan Caregivers holds its annual Chocolate Celebration during the month of February, so the Post hopes to help offset any losses from having to delay that event, said Larison. The pandemic has hit nonprofits especially hard, he added.

“We believe in the work of Samaritan Caregivers, and we hope we can do our part to help aid in their mission,” said Larison. “We believe you can tell the health of a community, by how well we take care of our seniors.”

Samaritan Caregivers provides no-cost assistance to seniors living at home, to ensure dignity, independence and quality of life. This includes transportation, grocery shopping, socialization and handyman assistance. Recently added programs include Medicare counseling (SHIP), prevent/detect/report Medicare fraud (SMP) and telehealth appointments.

February’s design features a simple message, boldly designed: LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR. The message is printed in brilliant white on dark heather charcoal T-shirts, long-sleeves, crewneck sweatshirts and hoodies.

Samaritan Caregivers’ Jamey Henderson said the group was pleased to participate in the program.

“This is a great way to promote more of what we want to see in our community: care and concern for others,” said Henderson. “Seniors aging in place are often overlooked, even though many have a critical, unmet need for food, friends and assistance.”

In addition, through 2021, each organization in the program is eligible for a $500 matching contribution thanks to Community First Bank of Indiana. Community First will match both the sale of merchandise and also any additional donations through the Post’s website.

The nonprofit of the month will be announced on the first weekday of the month at www.thekokomopost.com
