What began as an effort to boost Tipton’s economy by the wives of local pork farmers in 1969, has expanded into an annual festival in the heart of Tipton.

This three-day festival, running from Sept. 8 to 10 is located throughout the city of Tipton. The event, which draws more than 50,000 attendees annually, returns for its 53rd year, making it one of the longest-running festivals in Indiana.

While this event was made famous by its locally raised pork chops, that’s not all you’ll find at this festival. Guests in attendance will have the chance to experience food and entertainment that the whole family will love.

Christy Crawford, president of the festival committee, credits the continued success of the Pork Festival to the volunteers who make it possible.

“Keeping it alive is important to each of us,” Crawford said. “Seeing it happen every year is a tradition. You can’t go anywhere in the state of Indiana and say, ‘I’m from Tipton,’ without people knowing about the Pork Festival.”

The support and sponsorships from local businesses and nonprofit organizations are also a vital part of this annual event.

“We have a local business that opened two weeks ago, and one that hasn’t opened yet, and they are our main sponsors. That says a lot for a community and a festival that’s been going so long,” said Crawford.

Free live music is a big part of the Tipton County Pork Festival. Happening on Friday night Still Standing, An Elton John tribute band will take the stage at 8:30 for a night of your favorite songs.

Saturday brings another day of activities such as free character visits from Royal Events, carnival rides, crafts, and pageants. The last day of the festival closes out with another live concert from Crush, A Bon Jovi tribute band.

Another part of this year’s festival is the return of the art show. This year, in a new location. The Tipton County Public Library is welcoming the public to view art from 100 artists throughout the community, who will have the chance to compete for awards.

Add this festival to your calendar and experience what Tipton has to offer this weekend!
