Kokomo’s Coffee Finds

Hey Kokomo! We’ve noticed something happening in our city and we’re not mad about it. The local coffee scene is poppin’ and we’re here for it. Some of our staff likes theirs iced and bold, some of our staff likes it piping hot and super sweet. One thing we can all agree on is our love for coffee and our love for all things local. This blog practically wrote itself. Wherever you fall on the coffee-loving spectrum, you’re going to find your favorite coffee from one of our local coffee shops right here in the City of Firsts. In no particular order we present them to you:

Big Ben

Who remembers the theme song from ‘Cheers’? Just me? Well, as an elder Millennial, I’m about to cue the piano solo and vocals “Sometimes you wanna go...Where everybody knows your naaaame… And they’re always glad you came…” Not only is Big Ben slinging delicious specialty coffee drinks, but they give us some serious Cheers vibes when we walk through the door of this adorable, locally owned coffee spot located in our city’s Silver Stocking neighborhood. A cozy environment, friendly service, yummy coffee. You can’t go wrong. We bet you can’t visit without running into someone you know!

If you don’t know about this gem in our city, today is your lucky day. Located inside Cross America, Doubting Thomas does coffee right. Their espresso drinks are magic. Their tea lattes are heavenly. Their plain old drip coffee is out of this world. Bonus: they use locally roasted beans from Peshewa Coffee Company (y’all, the beans are roasted just a few feet from their coffee grinders!) You’re welcome.

Sweet Peas

Newbies to the Kokomo coffee scene, this play cafe’s espresso bar is legit! Yummy espresso drinks and nitro cold brew on tap, we are impressed with the quality of their drink menu. Some of their drinks are named after Kokomo history and some of their drinks are nods to you Harry Potter fans out there. Muggle or not, you’re sure to find a drink you’ll enjoy.

Main Street Cafe

Ah, Main Street Cafe. Located at the corner of Main and Mulberry street, this recently expanded corner cafe has been hand crafting some of our favorite espresso beverages for a while now. Pro tip from our staff: go for the coffee, get addicted to their avocado toast.

MO Joe’s

In the running for best decorated local hang out, MO Joe’s feels like the coffee shop you’re most likely to catch a local artist or two. Bringing unique offerings to the coffee landscape, you can find high octane (read: highly caffeinated) java and sip until your productivity is at pre-quarantine levels.

So what do you think, Kokomo? Did you find your new favorite coffee spot? Or did we miss your favorite place? Let us know in the comments below!
