National Donut Day in Kokomo

Hey Kokomo! Did you know that today is National Donut Day? It’s a beautiful sunny Friday, and after learning about this ‘holiday,’ I decided that my assistant for the day (my four-year-old daughter) and I would celebrate! She was tagging along with me for the day so we did the right thing. We did what any red-blooded Kokomoan would do on National Donut Day and headed straight for Dan’s Variety Bakery.

If you know about Dan’s, you know that once they sell out of donuts, they close. I respect that. Unfortunately for us we were too late today and Dan’s was closed when we got there.

Thinking fast, we started out for Jack’s Donuts. They’re a newcomer to the Kokomo donut scene and their donuts can hold their own in a competition with Dan’s. But once again, we struck out. According to their Facebook page, Jack’s Donuts of Kokomo has been closed since March 23rd. (Here’s hoping they open again soon!)

So, needing to celebrate National Donut Day with an actual… donut… we decided on Kroger’s bakery. My daughter chose the star donut with chocolate icing and declared that it was delicious. I’m calling it a National Donut Day success!

How about you, Kokomo? Did you make it to Dan’s in time? Are you celebrating National Donut Day?
