Kokomo Food & Fun Family Christmas Movie Nights

You may have seen the viral movie night guides floating around social media, but we thought we could add a little KokomoMO’ to them. Here are seven classic Christmas Movies with some suggestions of local food and fun to make the family perfect movie night here in Kokomo!

“A Charlie Brown Christmas,” 1965
Not Rated | 30 minutes
Watch it on Apple TV or borrow the DVD/ Blu-Ray from KHCPL

Popcorn is one of the few things Charlie Brown knows how to make, and you can get gourmet popcorn at the Popcorn Cafe here in Kokomo. For fun, you can visit Cruise In Trees to pick your own Christmas Tree or go ice skating at the Frozen Sandlot just like the whole peanuts gang at the beginning of the movie. When it is movie time you and your family can snuggle up with a blanket like Linus and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas with Charlie Brown and his friends

“Elf,” 2003
PG | 1 Hr 35 Mins
Watch it on Hulu, rent it on YouTube or Amazon Prime, or borrow the DVD or Blu-Ray at KHCPL

Buddy the Elf had quite the experience in the Big Apple, but we know he’d love a big plate of spaghetti from Martino’s Italian Villa with sugar on top. He’d be so excited to hear that Santa will be at the Markland Mall (this one won’t smell like beef and cheese either) and you can reserve your time with him here. You must eat a balanced diet of candy around the holidays so be sure to stock up at Old Thyme Mercantile LLC before you and your family enjoy your Elf Movie Night!

“Home Alone,” 1990
PG | 1 Hr 43 Mins
Watch it on Disney+, Hulu, rent it on Amazon Prime, or borrow the DVD from KHCPL

This Christmas classic is the original of the six-part franchise, but don’t watch it when you’re home alone. You and your family can drive through the light display and Live Nativity at The Connexion Church before ordering a delicious cheese pizza from your favorite local pizza place (or get it delivered so you can say that famous line). Dont forget and Ice Cream Sundae from Cone Palace. No one can stop you from eating rubbish during the holidays!

“How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” 2000
PG | 1 Hr 55 Mins
Rent it from Amazon Prime, YouTube, or borrow the DVD from KHCPL

He’s the mean, green one we’ve all come to love, Dr. Seuss’ classic story and cartoon (1966) are celebrated now as a live action-film (2000) and animation (2018). Whichever you choose to watch, you should definitely indulge and share some Fudge from So Good Candies with your family. You have the chance to meet the Grinch and watch the movie at the historic Diana Theatre in Tipton this weekend as well.

“Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmas,” 1999
Not Rated | 1 Hr 10 Mins
Watch it on Disney+ or rent it on YouTube and Amazon Prime

Mickey and his friends share stories of the holidays in Mickey’s Once and Twice Upon A Christmas movies. You can get a stack of pancakes from the Breakfast House for brunch or dinner. As the evening comes look up and wish upon a star. We love how Kokomo is extra magical this time of year with the City of Lights glowing in Highland Park before heading home to start to your movie night with Mickey.

“The Polar Express,” 2004
G | 1 Hr 40 Min
Watch it on Hulu, rent it on Amazon Prime, or borrow the DVD from KHCPL

To really get into the Christmas Spirit you can volunteer as a bell ringer with the Salvation Army and grab dinner at our very own Choo Choo McGoos’s to see another special train. This movie night wouldn’t be complete without some hot chocolate and they have many options at MO Joe Coffee House downtown. While “Seeing is believing, but sometimes the most real things in the world are the things we can't see.”-The Conductor

“The Santa Clause,” 1994
PG | 1 Hr 47 Min
Watch it on Disney+, rent it on YouTube, Amazon Prime, or borrow the DVD/Blu-Ray from KHCPL

This is another classic that has grown into a franchise we all adore with three movies and two seasons of the new series on Disney+. It’ll be difficult to decide which part of the Santa Clause you want to watch. You can spend quality time together by painting ornaments or making a special gift at Fired Arts Studio. If the weather is right you can play a friendly game of flag football outside like they do that the North Pole. Just in case your dinner end up in flames, the American Institution of Bob Evans is open until 9 p.m. (RIP Kokomo Denny’s).
