Howard County: Jan. 10 Basketball Predictions
As the Howard County high school basketball season heats up, fans are in for an exciting stretch of games. With teams like Kokomo, Northwestern, and Taylor, Northwestern, all showing promising talent, predicting outcomes has never been tougher. Each matchup brings unique challenges and opportunities, and some outcomes could swing in either direction.
Now, let's dive into this week's predictions for the winners of each game.
4A #18 Kokomo 8-2 vs Logansport 4-7
Kokomo’s 13-day layoff ends Friday night when the Wildkats face Logansport. The game will give Kokomo a chance to test its work over winter break and play in one of the state’s best gyms.
Aside from one odd weekend in December, Kokomo has overcome every obstacle this season. That trend is expected to continue Friday night. Logansport’s defense has struggled to contain opponents with various playing styles, which is a big reason why Kokomo’s up-tempo offense is expected to have no issues.
Winner: Kokomo
Hamilton Heights 6-5 vs Northwestern 6-3
Northwestern has been fortunate to play six of its nine games this season at home, a big asset as the Tigers prepare for their next game against Hamilton Heights.
This matchup feels like a toss-up. Both teams are still searching for a consistent formula for success and are led by coaches with over 200 career wins at their current schools. Two deciding factors in this game are Northwestern’s homecourt advantage and the Tigers being back at full strength, making them the favorites to defeat the Huskies.
Winner: Northwestern
2A #8 Taylor 9-0 vs Rossville 7-4
The Titans won the Indiana Kitchen Classic championship during winter break, giving them plenty of confidence heading into the new year. Taylor will need to carry some of that magic from their midseason tournament title into their road game against Rossville.
The Titans and Hornets are set to meet for the second time in as many weeks, with Taylor having won the first matchup in the championship game of the Indiana Kitchen Classic. One downfall for Rossville in that game was their inability to efficiently shoot inside the three-point line. While beating the same team twice in one season is always tough, Taylor's defense should have similar success, helping them secure a tough road win over Rossville.
Winner: Taylor
