Heidi’s Hidden Gems - Homestyle Meals from Mama Karen’s
There’s nothing better than a home-cooked meal — except a home-cooked meal where you don’t have to do the work! Skip the planning and the clean-up and stop by this hidden gem right here in Kokomo for an affordable yet filling dinner of your own.
Mama Karen’s is located at 830 E. Markland Ave., Kokomo. What once started as a tent at the farmer’s market with a variety of home-cooked meals and desserts from recipes from the late “Mama Karen,” gained traction as a hearty, reasonably-priced culinary experience that left customers wanting more.
A storefront was opened soon after and even though it’s small, it packs a lot of food, flavor and love into the quaint space.
Thursdays at Mama Karen’s are for meatloaf, which is what I tried while filming this episode. You can get this whole plate pictured for $14, two large slices of meatloaf, mashed potatoes, glazed carrots and two rolls. Or, you can choose one side (carrots or mashed potatoes) for $12. But this is a lot of food — and I was so stuffed after!
This rotating menu offers a limited amount of servings daily, so call and place an order for pick up or catering to secure your meal, or take a chance that you get there before they’re sold out.
Don’t forget to snag a dessert to take home while you’re there! From brownies and fudge to pie and cake pops, these desserts can be ordered ahead or picked up upon availability right here on East Markland Ave.
