The Haynes Apperson Festival released the lineup for the 2022 Haynes Apperson Festival on Thursday afternoon, bringing back a festival favorite as well as national acts with a lengthy list of hits.

The festival is set to return to Foster Park from June 30 through July 2, featuring games, rides, a sports festival, the legendary parade through downtown Kokomo as well as the annual fireworks show.

“We are excited for this year’s Haynes Apperson Festival,” said Festival Chairman Paul Wyman in a release Thursday. “We are looking forward to celebrating all that is great about our community and honoring our history and heritage.”

Thursday June 30: Here Come the Mummies

This Nashville-based funk rock band is a Haynes Apperson Festival favorite with its mysterious band members and enormous sound. Rumored to be Grammy-award winning musicians skirting contract disputes with record labels, the identities of the band members are kept entirely secret. The band plays into the mummy theme pretty heavily. Its website says the band was “cursed after deflowering a great Pharaoh’s daughter …. Some say they are reincarnated Grammy winning studio musicians, some say their internal organs still lay in clay pots back in Egypt. Regardless, HCTM’s mysterious personas, cunning song-craft, and unrelenting live show will bend your brain, and melt your face.”

Friday July 1: Jefferson Starship

This San Francisco rock band was a continuation of Jefferson Airplane and rose to popularity from 1974 through 1984, and racked up eight gold or platinum studio albums. Hits included “Miracles,” “Jane,” and “Find Your Way Back!” among others. A revival of the band began in 1992 and has continued to the present. Fun fact: Jefferson Starship’s next iteration, Starship, played the Haynes Apperson festival in 2009.

Saturday July 2: Big Bad Voodoo Daddy

Children of the ’90s may remember the American jazz and swing revival, largely led by bands like Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. This Southern California swing revival band came to fame with hits like “Go Daddy-O,” “You & Me & the Bottle Makes 3 Tonight (Baby),” and “Mr. Pinstripe Suit.” The band has also played the halftime show at the Super Bowl.

Opening for the headliners this year are several of our local bands, Love 4 Zero, Hence The Hero and Rogers Ritual Band.

“This year’s musical line up is powerful!” said Wyman in the release. “It has a little something for everyone. There is no doubt Foster Park will be rocking once again. We can’t wait to welcome everyone and see people enjoying live concerts in beautiful Foster Park.”
