Kokomo Post Kids Eat, Play, Learn: Sept. 26
Hey Kokomo! It’s that time of the week again. Our staff with kids are happy to share a few of the places their kids like to eat, play, and learn in and around Howard County. Check out this week’s picks for yourself!
Kokomo Kids Eat:
Cream Candies from So Good Candies
3700 S. Lafountain St., Kokomo, IN 46902
(765) 327-8080
After a long morning of running errands, I wanted to get a special treat for the boys (and myself). So we stopped at So Good Candies for some sweets. It was against my better judgment to let my youngest pick whatever he wanted from the case this past week, but he actually made a good choice by picking a banana cream candy. The individual candies were only a dollar and they are available in many flavors. In addition to the banana, we got cookie dough and cheesecake. However, I was tempted to purchase many other candies and a million-dollar baked spaghetti from the cooler made by Tastefully Simple. It’s incredible how many goodies can be found in one place!
Kokomo Kids Play:
The Kids Lounge at Brad Howell Ford
2170 E. Boulevard, Kokomo, IN 46902
(866)-398-5322
Purchasing a car or getting service done can sometimes be a game of waiting. This can be difficult for a family with little ones. We were inspired to see if some of our local car dealerships had any solution to the risk of making a toddler be patient. Brad Howell Ford has a cute playroom that any child would love. It’s adjacent to the regular waiting area so parents can be nearby, but there are also small chairs in the playroom. There was a family enjoying the room while we visited to take a look and Paw Patrol was playing on the TV while the kids played and ate some breakfast. I am so thankful when businesses go the extra mile to make life a little easier for their customers and this playroom certainly makes waiting with a toddler much easier.
Kokomo Kids Learn:
Family Exploration Backpack from Kokomo Parks & Recreation Department
Inside the Kirkendall Nature Center
4200 S. Park Road, Kokomo, IN 46902
(765) 864-1655
On our family’s first visit to the Kirkendall Nature Center, we checked out a Family Exploration Backpack to have some fun and learn about birds. The backpacks are available for checkout with a form of identification and contact information. They can be used anywhere at the park but must be returned at least 30 minutes before the nature center closes. Inside was everything you would need to go on a real adventure in nature. My boys were obsessed with the birdcall sound machine and using their binoculars. Unfortunately, we didn’t see any birds on our walk, but we did find some bugs. My youngest at age 2 wasn’t as attentive, but he still had fun. I’d recommend this as a great learning activity for families with early elementary-age kids. The nature center is operating with their Winter hours so be sure to check before you head out with your family.
Kirkendall Nature Center Winter Hours (Sept. 1-April 30)
2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday
11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday
1 to 4 p.m. Sunday
