Kokomo Kids Eat
Chocolate Trick or Treat Blasts from Sonic
2321 E. Markland Ave., Kokomo
(765) 450-5288
Our family likes Sonic for the tots and snacks, but we had to try the Trick or Treat Blast when we saw it had all the good stuff (M&Ms, Heath bits, and Oreos) in it. They have the options of vanilla and chocolate ice cream base to choose from. The boys chose chocolate for us. I purchased one small sonic blast to split between the two of them with enough left over for mom to share a couple bites. The reviews were positive as they shoveled ice cream into their mouths and they shared with their cousins on Facetime that they were eating, “yummy ice cream!” M&M’s aren’t my favorite mix-in, but in the few bites I shared I wasn't bothered by them in this special treat. If you like the sound of this candy combination or are just looking for another fun spooky season treat you better get to sonic before Halloween.
Kokomo Kids Play
The Playhouse at Main Occasions Catering
113 E. Main St. Greentown, IN 46936
(765) 461-2329
I met a few colleagues for dinner last week and chose to venture out to Greentown and stop at Main Occasions Catering. In addition to their catering, they have a full-service restaurant and dining room. I was even more surprised when we visited that they have the cutest play area for children who may not like to sit and wait patiently for their meal (my kids). It’s in the corner of the dining room, so you can easily sit nearby while your kids play.
As you can see from the photo, it’s a play house with a patio grill area and a picnic table and my boys had so much fun playing pretend. The only minor problem is that they didn’t want to stop playing when the food arrived at our table. If you want to try somewhere new for lunch or dinner and you have young kids, definitely head east and visit Main Occasions Catering.

Trick or Treat Safety with Sheriff Jerry Asher
Howard County Sheriff's Office
1800 W Markland, Ave., Kokomo, IN 46901
(765) 457-1105
Halloween is a night many people look forward to in hopes of dressing up as a special character, having fun, and getting loads of candy. There may be something spooky or some tricks along the way, but we hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween. So we asked Howard County Sheriff Jerry Asher if he would share some safety tips for everyone that is out on Halloween night, not just Trick-Or-Treaters.
Asher first recommended that parents and kids choose safe costumes that are fire-resistant and nontoxic makeup over masks and large hats that may obscure vision. Testing makeup prior to wear and removing makeup before bed are the best ways to prevent skin or eye irritations.
If children are allowed to stay out after dark, adding reflective tape to their costumes or having them carry glow sticks will make them more visible when their costumes may also be dark. It's a scary fact that children are more than twice as likely to be hit by a car on Halloween night than any other day of the year. Asher recommended a responsible adult accompany young children during trick-or-treating or if older children are going out on their own the family makes a plan and reviews a familiar route to be followed with an established curfew. This is also a great time to teach your child or review that they should never enter a stranger’s home or car.
Safety should be a priority for everyone on Halloween night. Including anyone who plans to be on the road during Trick-or-Treat hours (from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31). As motorists, Asher asked that we watch for pedestrians on the roads (including medians and curbs) enter and exit driveways and alleys carefully, and be cautious for children in dark costumes at twilight or later in the evening.
