Kokomo Kids Eat:

Rainbow Popcorn from Popcorn Cafe

1108 E. Markland Ave., Kokomo
(765) 252-3745

Popcorn is the ultimate snack food, and we regularly enjoy it at the ballpark and the movie theater so we went on a trip to the Popcorn Cafe recently. With so many choices of flavored popcorn available it's difficult to choose just one. I played it safe with some “Movie Time” and “Kettle Corn” promotional popcorn, but the little guy wanted “Rainbow” flavored popcorn. A little out of my comfort zone, but it was a hit! Each color of the rainbow is flavored like your typical fruity candy and it is surprisingly delicious. The popcorn disappeared quickly so we plan to visit often to try more different flavors. The shop is a fun place to visit, and you can find more than just popcorn there!

Kokomo Kids Play:

Super Soaker Battle Experience Kit from KHCPL Main

220 N. Union St., Kokomo
(765) 457-3424

I feel like I have to get creative as a mom during the summer months. Kids can get bored easily and you need to switch it up sometimes; enter the Super Soaker Battle Experience Kit from the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library. My kids were already getting tired of playing in the sprinkler on the hot days, and I needed something new and different. I almost forgot how wild a water fight could get. Our youngest needed a little help with the pump, but still had a blast. Water went everywhere. I have a feeling my kids enjoyed shooting me and their dad with water more than anything. Now, after a couple weeks of borrowing the kit, they are already looking forward to our next chance to play with the “water boomers.” The kit comes in a handy mesh bag with a carrying strap with not just two, but six super soakers to make it a seriously fun time. Be sure to get on the hold list for this before the end of the summer season.

Kokomo Kids Learn:

Haircuts at Barlow’s Barber Shop

119 W. Sycamore St., Kokomo
(765) 865-5912

Taking your kids to get a haircut can be a difficult task, but we’ve recently had great experiences at Barlow’s Barbershop in downtown Kokomo. Any time I go out in public with my kids, I try to use it as a learning experience. It could be learning to be kind to a stranger, say please and thank you, or being patient and waiting our turn. Many basic social skills are learned from practice and observation.

Barlow’s gave us some great haircuts, but they also empowered my boys by letting them make small decisions, helped them create small talk with someone new, and rewarded them for their good behavior and patience in the chair.

There are so many cool things to look at in the shop, but the best part is watching my boys react to the tool they use to clean the loose hair off after your trim.

What would your kids’ picks be? Leave us a comment below or on our social media pages so we can check them out!
