Free Fruit Stands for Kids at local Kroger Stores

Did you know that 38 percent of the food produced in the U.S. is thrown away? If you shop at Kroger, you may have seen this little display in the produce section of the Dixon or Maplecrest stores. In an effort to eliminate waste and encourage healthy eating habits the stores are placing apples, oranges, and bananas out for kids to enjoy while shopping with their families.

Sometimes, shopping alongside my kids can be a struggle, but recently they’ve been able to grab a snack and that’s made the grocery trip a little smoother. This seems to be a great effort by Kroger and something I’d hope to see other stores follow. To learn more about Kroger’s Zero Hunger Zero Waste campaign visit their website.

Batting Cages at City of Firsts Adventure Park
409 Arrow St., Kokomo, IN 46902 | (765)450-8155

City of Firsts Adventure Park isn’t just our local spot for mini golf and go-karts, they have batting cages too. One token gets 16 balls pitched at you for just two dollars per token. This can be a fun challenge or competition for the whole family. Bats and helmets are available, but supply is limited so it’s recommended that you bring your own. As always, anyone that enters the Adventure Park must have a waiver on file. You can find more information about City of Firsts Adventure Park on their website or by following their Facebook page.

Visit the Elwood Haynes Museum
1915 S Webster St., Kokomo, IN 46902 | (765)456-7500

A very prominent cause of Kokomo’s “City of Firsts” nickname, Elwood Haynes was a pioneer of science and industry. His legacy lives on in many ways, but one, the Elwood Haynes Museum, is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The museum is the original home of Elwood Haynes and is maintained by the Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department (KPRD) and is a great way to learn more about Kokomo’s rich automotive history. You can learn more about the museum by visiting the KPRD website.
