Hot Chocolate Flight from MO Joe Coffee House
106 N. Main St. Kokomo, IN 46901
(765)224-1007

After watching The Polar Express, our family was really excited for some hot chocolate, so we headed out to Mo Joe for the specialty hot chocolate flight. The flight is available all year long, but hits a little different when the temperature drops. The flight we ordered featured the specialty taste of Oreo, S’mores, White Sugar Cookie, and White Candy Cane Hot Chocolate. Many other flavors can be requested; be creative! I shared the flight with my oldest son, who felt so fancy taking sips and trying the different flavors in glasses that were just his size. It was decided that he enjoyed the “real” chocolate flavors (Oreo and S’mores) the most, while I enjoyed the white chocolate flavors (White Sugar Cookie and White Candy Cane). Stop by MO Joe Coffee House to help your family warm up with some hot chocolate or other special drinks.

The Tot Spot at the Kokomo Family YMCA
114 N Union St. Kokomo, IN 46901
(765) 457-4447

We’ve been enjoying the warmth of the YMCA program pool as a family lately. Access to the program pool and lap pool is included in your YMCA Membership. Membership details are available on the Kokomo YMCA Website or you can give them a call. The program pool and lap pool are home to many classes and activities so you’ll want to be sure to check the schedule for open swim availability. Our children are still learning to swim and have attended swimming lessons at the YMCA as well, but they never want to leave the shallow section of the program pool with the water toys, aka the Tot Spot. We also refer to it as the “ducky pool” because a collection of rubber ducks can usually be found swimming all over this area. It’s a great place for younger kids to play and splash in the water, especially during these cold fall and winter months.

Volunteer with the Kokomo Humane Society
729 E. Hoffer St. Kokomo, IN 46902
(765) 452-6224

Do you have a tween or teenager that loves animals, or maybe your family is considering getting a pet? Volunteering can be a great learning experience for kids, but volunteering with our local Kokomo Humane Society (KHS) can be even more furry and fun. Youth ages 16 and older can volunteer independently at the shelter and youth ages 10-15 are welcome to volunteer with an adult present. Potential volunteers can apply online or email volunteer@kokomohuman.org for application information. All volunteers are trained to continue the lifesaving mission of KHS and are encouraged to commit to a minimum of four service hours per month. Some examples of the tasks KHS volunteers do are walking dogs, socializing with cats, and household tasks to keep the shelter clean. Becoming a volunteer with the Kokomo Humane Society gives youth the opportunity to learn patience and experience the proper time and responsibility it takes to care for an animal. If volunteering isn’t for you, but you love animals be sure to stop by the cat cafe Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can visit the cat colony for $5 an hour (Free for kids ages 3-10 years old) and enjoy a cold or warm drink from the cafe while you visit.
