Kokomo Kids Eat:

Choo Choo McGoo’s Family Restaurant

816 E. Markland Ave., Kokomo

(765) 865-8367

A classic American choice for dinner, we frequent Choo Choo McGoo’s for the all-you-can-eat fish on Friday and kids eat free nights on Mondays. Our boys will voluntarily eat most of the kid’s menu items, but what they really want to see is the vintage train outside and the dessert cooler inside the diner. When dining in you can look around and see all kinds of fun classic decorations of historic Kokomo and hometown pride. We recently indulged in a XXX Root Beer at Choo Choo McGoo’s for the nostalgic feeling of having a root beer at the XXX in West Lafayette (Boiler Up). If you’ve never been, be sure to stop in with the family for breakfast, lunch or dinner and soak in one of Kokomo’s timeless restaurants.

Kokomo Kids Play:

The Slides at Northwest Park

1600 W. Judson Road, Kokomo

You can find Northwest Park by heading north on Phillips Street from downtown. It’s home to the Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department’s adult summer and fall softball leagues and the coveted Youth Easter Egg Hunt in the Spring. However, my family loves the playground. It’s beginning to show its age, but the slides are truly a wild ride. The large playset features many climbing apparatuses and four metal slides of varying heights. My oldest thinks they are too high, but my youngest takes on all of them (as I follow closely behind). Our favorite slides at Northwest Park are the set of three original slides side by side. When we three play at the park, we like to all get on a slide and countdown to slide down together. Be sure to gaze at the magnificent “Freedom Tree” as you make your way to and from the parking lot during your next visit!

Kokomo Kids Learn:

Kokomo Soccer Club

1965 W. Defenbaugh St., Kokomo

(765) 860-8388

As the school year begins, fall sports are already upon us. This past week was the first week of gameplay for local youth participating in the Fall Kokomo Soccer Club Recreational Leagues. We’ve been involved in the Lil’ Rebels program (for youth ages 2-3) and now the older age groups. Our kids love feeling like a part of a team and running and kicking the ball. The Lil Rebels program is a great way to get familiar with the game of soccer and for kids to learn and take direction from someone who isn’t their mom or dad. I’m thankful for the coaches that volunteer to guide these youth toward growth in their sports and big “goals.” Recreational leagues are held in the fall and spring and registration usually opens about three months before the season starts. Registration is no longer available but you can learn more about Kokomo Soccer Club by visiting the KSC website or contacting Matt Snyder at kscmatt2020@gmail.com.
