Kokomo Post Kids Eat, Play, Learn: Aug. 22
Hey, Kokomo! We are introducing a new series around here called Eat, Play, Learn. Each week, our team will share a few of the places our kids are wild about. We hope you discover some new places along the way! Check out this week’s picks for yourself!
Kokomo Kids Eat:
Personal Pan Pizza from Pizza Hut
3 Kokomo Locations
- 2328 W Sycamore St. (765) 456-1150
- 710 S. Reed Road (765) 452-8287
- 408 E. Center Road (765) 453-1511
This has been the first year for our family to participate in the Book It Reading Program and we cashed in our prize for a personal pan pizza after reaching our reading goals in June. It is only four pieces of cheese pizza, but to my little guy, this pizza was a renowned prize! To make things special, we dined in at the Center Road Pizza Hut location. While the iconic brick building with a red roof is there, the style of Pizza Hut has changed much since my childhood. Although, the personal pan pizza was just as I remembered and as magical as ever to my son. There aren’t many experiences from our childhoods that we can replicate and share with our kids, but I hope the personal pan pizza will always be there.
Kokomo Kids Play:
Al Berryman Splash Pad
105 W Elm. St., Kokomo, IN 46901
Summer is showing off this week with some high temperatures, meaning we will head to the Al Berryman Splash Pad, now that Kokomo Beach is closed. The splash pad is a part of Al Berryman Memorial Park off of the Industrial Heritage Trail. There you’ll find many art sculptures, murals, and a set of restrooms. I appreciate the seating areas where I can get a break and enjoy watching the kids play. We love to visit the splash pad in the spring and fall when it’s a little less busy as a special treat. The under-the-sea theme of the splash pad makes it even more fun, my boys will pretend they are swimming and love to play peek-a-boo in the hammerhead shark.
Kokomo Kids Learn:
Music Lessons at Rhum Academy of Music
500 W Superior St., Kokomo, IN 46901
(765) 236-0567
Music education and training is proven to have many cognitive benefits for young people and our boys have begun to show more interest in making “music” lately. We sing and dance often, but they love playing the jingle bells and making noise with other household items. I was interested in what opportunities are available in Kokomo for music lessons at a younger age and went to check out Rhum Academy of Music. We were welcomed to the studio and given the chance to try out a few instruments they offer lessons for (drum set, ukulele, and piano) and my oldest son is now very eager to start learning because he wants to be a, “Rock Star” when he grows up (this week). Rhum Academy offers weekly music lessons for many instruments and holds public showcases each month for students to practice in front of an audience. Visit their website for more information or attend a monthly showcase to see how our Kokomo youth are learning at Rhum Academy.
