YMCA Hosts Block Party/Community Cornhole Tournament

Summer and cornhole go hand-in-hand in the Hoosier state. Does your dynamic duo have what it takes to win $250 and the title of the 2023 All Valley Cornhole Tournament?

Beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, June 9, 12 two-person teams will compete to win the ultimate prize at this family-friendly block party-style event.

An important part of planning this event is making registration open to participants 12 and older. After recognizing the struggle to find dedicated space for teenagers to hang out at the YMCA, Cornhole boards just made sense.

“Cornhole is one of those things we can move around so logistically it made sense. But we also want something for families to do together. In that age range of 12 and up, it’s tough for them to find something they want to do. Your family can just come in and play against each other,” said Tony Budenz, director of marketing and communications at the YMCA.

He said after an astounding success from the previous tournament in March, which was held inside due to weather, the event is returning to the YMCA with plans to make it even better than before.

The 100 block of South Union Street, in front of the Kokomo Family YMCA, will be closed to traffic so that guests to get the whole block party experience.

DJ Boomboxx will be set up and playing your favorite songs. The Coterie will be in attendance with a wine and beer garden, and there will be food available for purchase from So Tam Good food truck.

“We wanted to do something different, and Kyle Gibson from The Coterie has always been a supporter of us,” said Budenz. “It’s not very often that we get to have a beer and wine garden at our events so we wanted to have him out.”

“We’re hoping for more spectators out there and having fun, we’d also like to start this as a league started here at the YMCA,” said Bundez

Participants can register up until noon on the day of the event. Registration is $50 per person Click here to learn more and to register.
